Blinded by the headlights? Transport Canada wants to know | CBC News
"Dr. Christina Schropp states, 'The chief complaint is that the headlights seem brighter than we're used to. We have a lot of new types of car manufacturing happening and the light technology has changed.'"
"Schropp mentions, 'Some of my patients have reported difficulty driving due to headlight glare, specifically at nighttime and while on highways.'"
"Schropp adds, 'Historically, car lights were designed to lighten the way on the road, but vehicles have increased in size, which affects how headlights illuminate the road.'"
High school student Alec Hodgson experiences anxiety while driving at night due to bright headlights. Transport Canada is collecting data on headlight glare through a survey open to drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Over 142,000 Canadians have participated. Dr. Christina Schropp, an optometrist, notes that patients frequently report challenges with bright vehicle headlights, which have become more intense due to advancements in lighting technology. The direction of headlights also contributes to visibility issues, particularly for larger vehicles.
