Jackie and Shadow's 2 new eaglets doing well, eating in their 1st days since hatching in Big Bear
""It was just amazing. It was so exciting to go to bed and shoot out of bed the next morning, exciting to see what was happening with the other chick," said Jenny Voisard with Friends of Big Bear Valley."
""Jackie and Shadow are feeding them, and they're both eating at this point. They're working on strengthening their neck muscles. They have a hard time keeping their heads up. They fall down a lot. They can't see very well yet, but they're just adorable," she said."
""I think she's in the nest, because that's really where she wanted to go, and wanted to see," Voisard said, referring to Sandy Steers' passing."
""You can submit a name or two, or however many that you want, and then we will do a random drawing, and we will take a list of finalists to Big Bear third graders, and they will select the final names," Voisard said."
Jackie and Shadow, a famous eagle couple in Big Bear, welcomed two eaglets during Easter weekend. The first eaglet hatched late Saturday night, followed by the second on Easter morning. Both eaglets are healthy and being fed by their parents. This successful hatching follows a winter setback when their first clutch was destroyed. The event is bittersweet as it comes two months after the passing of Sandy Steers, who was instrumental in launching the eagle cam. A naming contest for the eaglets will soon be announced.
