Amazon is cutting off support for older Kindles
"Amazon has sent out emails to users warning that it's discontinuing support for Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets released in 2012 or earlier, effective May 20, 2026."
"Users can still read books they've already downloaded on those devices, but they will no longer be able to purchase, borrow, or download new ones."
"Affected devices include the very first Kindle, Kindle 2, Kindle DX, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, Kindle 5, and the first version of Kindle Paperwhite."
"Amazon is trying to urge Kindle users to upgrade by providing a promo code for 20 percent off select Kindle devices and ebook credits for new purchases."
Amazon will stop supporting Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets released in 2012 or earlier starting May 20, 2026. Users can still read previously downloaded books, but new purchases, borrowing, or downloads will be unavailable. Affected devices include the original Kindle, Kindle 2, Kindle DX, and others. Factory resets or deregistering these devices will render them unusable. Amazon is encouraging users to upgrade by offering a 20% discount on new Kindle devices and ebook credits for purchases made by June 20.
