Do You Cry More or Less Than the Average Person?
""Crying is a basic human behavior. I was astonished that very little research has been done on crying in field-like settings.""
""Women cried almost twice as frequently a month than men, at just shy of 5.8 crying episodes over the month-long study, compared to just 2.6 for the men.""
""The overarching takeaway of the study was that the benefits of crying greatly depended on the reason for why the participants were crying in the first place - which also varied depending on gender.""
A study examined the emotional effects of crying among 106 participants from Austria and Germany. Women reported crying nearly twice as often as men, with longer episodes. The study revealed that the emotional benefits of crying depend on the reasons behind the tears, which differ by gender. Men often cried due to feelings of impotence or media influences, while women were more likely to cry from loneliness. Overall, 87 percent of participants experienced at least one crying episode during the study period.
