Denmark warns Trump they have 'red lines that can't be crossed' over Greenland - London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com
"Europe ought to focus on the war with Russia and Ukraine, because, frankly, you see what that's gotten, them. That's what Europe should focus on - not Greenland."
"Arctic security is a shared transatlantic interest, and one we can discuss with our US allies. But tariff threats are not the way to go about this. Sovereignty is not for trade. We have no interest to pick a fight, but we will hold our ground. Europe has a slate of tools to protect its interests."
"We have red lines that can't be crossed. You can't threaten your way to ownership of Greenland. You have a desire, you have a vision, you have a request, but you will never be able to achieve that by putting pressure on us."
The US President instructed Europe to focus on the war with Russia and Ukraine rather than Greenland and warned Washington will "100%" hit EU countries with tariffs if no deal is reached over Greenland. He declined to comment when asked about using military force to seize Greenland. Denmark is deploying a substantial number of additional troops to Greenland. NATO's Secretary General Mark Rutte said he will continue to work with Denmark and Greenland on security. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas rejected tariff threats and pledged to hold Europe's ground. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen warned that threats will not secure Greenland and signalled unified European response to pressure.
