Nationwide issues warning over clever tactics' scammers use to steal people's money
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"A survey commissioned by Nationwide Building Society found that more than half (57 per cent) of respondents believe these suspicious calls are increasing in frequency. Over a quarter (28 per cent) admitted they lack confidence in distinguishing a legitimate call from their bank. The building society has now introduced a new feature to build on its scam checker service. It enables customers to instantly confirm whether the call they are on is genuine, through Nationwide's banking app."
The Independent positions itself as sending journalists to report across issues including reproductive rights, climate change, and Big Tech and invites donations to support on-the-ground reporting without paywalls. The outlet emphasizes making quality journalism available to everyone, funded by those who can afford it. UK adults receive on average two scam calls per week, and 57 per cent of survey respondents believe suspicious calls are increasing. Twenty-eight per cent admitted lacking confidence in distinguishing legitimate calls from their bank. Nationwide Building Society introduced an app feature allowing customers to instantly confirm whether a call is genuine through the banking app's call checker.
