Activists have hung a photo in the Louvre museum in Paris of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor being driven from a police station after his arrest. The British political campaign group Everyone Hates Elon fixed the photo, which shows the former prince slouched in the backseat of a Range Rover, on a wall of the Paris gallery on Sunday. The photo was taken by the Reuters photographer Phil Noble after Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest on Thursday at the Sandringham estate on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
I thought it was wrong I'd said we mustn't pay it, but we ended up paying it anyway, a former civil servant told the BBC, referring to a claim that followed a visit to the Middle East. The source, who worked in the UK's trade department in the early 2000s and is now retired, said he was annoyed by Andrew's request to cover the cost of massage services, and refused. But he claimed he was overruled by senior colleagues.
Speaking with The Telegraph for an interview published Friday, Ian Maxwell said he feels sympathy for Andrew because unlike Ghislaine whose family has stood by her even as she serves 20 years in prison for conspiring in Epstein's sex trafficking crimes the former prince has apparently been abandoned. Amid continued revelations about Andrew's alleged connections to Epstein, King Charles III announced last fall that he'd be booting his younger brother from the royal residence where he'd lived for more than 20 years.
The role was described by UK Trade & Investment as an extensive programme of targeted engagements both in the UK and overseas to promote the interest of UK industry and the UK as a whole. In essence, the role involved high-level lobbying, as well as the handling of sensitive confidential briefs regarding investment opportunities. It required close coordination with the UK's trade and diplomatic missions abroad.
Enough is already in the public domain to indicate that police believe that there must be a case to answer to the charge of misconduct in public office. King Charles, who apparently was not warned in advance that his brother was to be arrested, has been scrupulous in his response. The law must take its course, he said, offering prosecutors full and wholehearted support and cooperation.
