Former player Robinson Chirinos will return to the Orioles but in a new role. The club announced that he will be working as a special assistant in the baseball operations and player development department. Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com was among those to relay the news, adding that Chirinos will "support players, coaches, and staff across our lower levels, providing leadership, mentorship, and reinforcement of organizational philosophies."

Arbitration hearing rooms are notorious for their unpredictability. Lawyers who have argued cases have left the room convinced they'd made airtight arguments -- and lost. Others were despondent in the aftermath, certain of defeat, and emerged victorious. Which is to say that whatever approach Tarik Skubal's team takes in trying to convince a three-person panel that he's worthy of the $32 million he's seeking instead of the $19 million the Detroit Tigers are offering, the ultimate result is a crapshoot.

They're banking on Kyle Bradish in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery.

On Saturday, April 25, the first 20,000 fans who enter Oriole Park at Camden Yards for their game against the Boston Red Sox will receive an Orioles-branded hockey jersey. This year's cream-colored sweater is inspired by the Capitals' home and away jerseys, featuring a Baltimore Orioles wordmark logo influenced by the Caps' original mark. BALTIMORE is written in a slanted orange font over top orioles in black, with the L orange and shaped like a hockey stick.

A seventh-rounder by the Rangers back in 2016, the as-of-yesterday 28-year-old Huff has played in parts of five major league seasons. He once rated as one of the top catching prospects in the sport and carries a decent .247/.301/.430 batting line in the majors. That production comes in a sample of only 272 plate appearances and spite of a 36% strikeout rate, however. Huff's rate stats have been buoyed by a .350 average on balls in play.

With Christmas in the rear view mirror and start of a new week here, it could make sense for some more free agents to find new homes in the coming days. While still in the midst of the holiday season, recent years have shown activity can still be fast and furious. Perhaps the Braves can end 2025 and enter 2026 with their off-season basically complete if they can find a move for a starting pitcher they like this week.

We're still in the nascent stages of the MLB offseason, with only a handful of notable free-agent signings and trades thus far. Still, with the GM Meetings now in the rearview mirror, teams have laid a fair bit of groundwork for the weeks and months ahead, both on the free agent and trade markets. Kyle Tucker stands as the offseason's top free agent, and while there's no indication he's close to signing, there are also some hints falling into place about his potential market.

Baltimore's baseball ops leader candidly acknowledged this week that he's hopeful of adding a starter who can give his team "innings and front-half-of-the-rotation stuff" as well as a reliever "who has closer experience" (links via Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner and Jake Rill of MLB.com. Just as notably, Elias voiced that he is "fully prepared" to forfeit draft pick(s) to sign free agents who have rejected a qualifying offer.

Paredes, who turned 30 in September, is no stranger to Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias. He originally signed with the Astros as an amateur back in 2016, when Elias was the scouting director in Houston. Elias had already jumped to Baltimore by the time Paredes had emerged as one of Houston's more notable pitching prospects and then made his subsequent MLB debut, however.

That's obviously a tiny sample of work but his minor league track record also isn't great. From 2021 to 2023, he hit .233/.350/.419 on the farm. That offense translates to a 104 wRC+, indicating he was above average but barely. He struck out in 29% of his plate appearances in that time. In 2024, he had a monster .299/.372/.514 showing in Triple-A.

Fans may recall that the Toronto Blue Jays signed Walker in mid-December last winter, adding another name to the bullpen mix heading into the new season. He didn't crack the big league roster out of Spring Training and was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Walker would be recalled on April 21st, making three appearances. The New York product would allow eight hits, four earned runs, and two walks across five innings of work, striking out eight hitters.
