SystemRescue 13.0 introduces Linux kernel 6.18, improved HiDPI support, updated bcachefs tools, and GParted Live 1.8.1.
The development of bcachefs has been officially jettisoned from that of the Linux kernel itself. At present, the work-in-progress kernel 6.17 still contains bcachefs code, but unmodified from the 6.16 release. In response, the project has published its first set of packages of a version that can be dynamically loaded as a DKMS module, as promised a couple of weeks ago in an email from project lead Kent Overstreet.
As we discussed in mid-August, the end of the battle between Linux paramount penguin Linus Torvalds and bcachefs boffin Kent Overstreet came to an unhappy conclusion. At the end of August, Torvalds announced that from now on, bcachefs is "externally maintained." As LWN summarized it, this means the new filesystem won't be developed as part of the main Linux kernel tree - but it hasn't been totally removed.
