Brave has evolved from an ad-blocking browser to incorporating opt-in ads and search advertising while maintaining user privacy.
The first is that the UI is highly customizable. One of my favorite customizations is the ability to move the search bar to the bottom of the window, which makes it much easier to use Opera with one hand. The second is that Opera has a built-in AI tool called Aria, and it is pretty fantastic. Aria was the first AI tool I used, and I often use it before any other service.
For most general web users, Brave is the most successful browser they've never heard of. But perhaps more people know it than you might expect. Otherwise, how could Brave have generated $25 million in revenue in Q1 2025, most of which came from the search ads product built into its browser. Still, there is a glimmer of hope for search engines that want to quickly build up their own index.
It's been almost 10 years since Brave launched, and slowly but surely the privacy-focused web browser is attracting more and more users. It's been a long road with some ups and downs, but it's paying off. According to a recent company blog post, Brave says its browser has crossed a new milestone: 100 million active monthly users. That's as of September 2025, representing a huge jump up from the 50 million users milestone it reached back in 2021. That's a four-year doubling!
