The Springs fire in Riverside county has grown to 3,500 acres, prompting local authorities to issue several evacuation orders. The fire is concentrated in an area mostly north and east of Lake Perris, burning portions of the surrounding state recreation area.

The fire was reported in the 15900 block of Gilman Springs Road in Riverside County, just before 11 a.m. Gusty Santa Ana winds were forecast for much of Southern California on Friday.

"She wants to regain stable health so she can thoughtfully and responsibly consider her options," her office told ABC7 Eyewitness News in a statement announcing her leave of absence and addressing the condition of her mental health.

Gov. Gavin Newsom noted that insurance companies are returning or expanding coverage in California in his final State of the State speech, but acknowledged that there is still "a lot of work to do here." His latest budget includes a financing program to help survivors of wildfires bridge the gap between insurance payouts and the costs of rebuilding.
