The command included a video of the strike with its announcement, which shows a boat traveling through the water as it explodes into flames after being hit with what looks like a missile. A wanted felon led Sonoma County sheriff's deputies on a one-hour chase Thursday in which a vehicle pursuit turned into a foot pursuit and then a water pursuit in the frigid Russian River. The US military on Thursday said it killed two people in a strike on a boat suspected of carrying illegal drugs in the eastern Pacific. It added that "no US military forces were harmed" in the operation. Maximo Macanas, a McKinleyville resident, was discovered by a local sport vessel on Tuesday, according to a Facebook post by the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office. US naval forces have boarded and seized a runaway Russian shadow fleet tanker in the North Atlantic, the latest in a series of moves by Washington against vessels linked to illegal trade in Venezuelan oil. The US European Command said in a statement on social media on January 7 that the tanker, the Marinera, formerly named the Bella 1, was seized in the north Atlantic Ocean between Iceland and the United Kingdom.
Jacob Rajaniemi's exact cause of death is being investigated along with the exact amount of time he'd been in the water before he was found, said Emily Fuller, a public information specialist with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. "Our marine unit is conducting a boating accident investigation and the coroner's office is conducting their death investigation, so once those are both complete we should have a better idea of what happened," Fuller told The Press Democrat.
