We are very happy with the verdicts. We have to hold offenders accountable, and in this case, we got justice for two specific victims, but I'm hoping with this jury verdict people will see that these kinds of crimes are not going to be tolerated. We're going to hold these people to account.
On Dec. 4, Delgado was found sitting outside of a Salinas dental office with a large metal pipe. He was asked to leave the property, but refused. Salinas police officers were dispatched to the scene, where they contacted Delgado. Delgado revealed during their interactions that he had a knife on him.
They don't deserve that because I think they were misled [by police]. I mean, somebody did it. But they didn't have what it took to prove that it was Rashaun. ... They presented us with a motive that was flaccid ... there wasn't enough there.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol say Renderos and Vasquez, who weren't wearing seatbelts, were thrown from a BMW driven by Alegria, who is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The original criminal complaint filed by the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office shows Alegria's blood-alcohol content on Feb. 11 was at least 0.20, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.

On Oct. 11, 2025 in the West Village, Dana Escoffier, an 80-year-old resident who lived on Hudson Street crossed paths with 82-year-old Dean Whetzel, who lived around the corner. They were neighbors for 50 years. According to news reports, Whetzel apparently bumped into him. Escoffier allegedly shoved him back, sending Whetzel to the pavement where he suffered a fractured skull. He never regained consciousness and died on Nov. 5, 2025. The city's medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Authorities allege Haney intentionally struck 79-year-old Axelrod with his car near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Hereford Street around 8 a.m. Saturday. He allegedly drove onto the Commonwealth Avenue Mall and fled the scene after mowing the philanthropist down. Axelrod was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Boston police said. His dog was also killed in the collision.
The shooting, captured on video, occurred on the 6900 block of International Boulevard in East Oakland. Black accused 55-year-old Roger Johnson, of Hayward, of stepping on his shoe and showed Johnson the butt of an AR-style weapon he had at his waistband, which the defense said was meant to deter Johnson from escalating it into a fight. Instead, Johnson attempted to grab the gun and Black allegedly shot at Johnson during the fracas, killing Johnson's friend, 55-year-old James Stephens, according to court records.
Judge Jeffrey R. Finigan set a trial date of Jan. 25, 2027, for Chunli Zhao, the Peninsula man accused of gunning down seven fellow migrant workers in the county's deadliest mass shooting on record. If the trial date holds, it would come almost exactly four years to the day after authorities claim Zhao carried out the killings at two mushroom farms in and around the coastal community of Half Moon Bay.
