Longnose spurdog sharks, locally known as kalb al-bahr, are sold on Libyan fish markets. Fishermen catch them even though they are carrying eggs, driven by economic necessity.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reported that four divers were cited for illegally taking hundreds of spiny lobsters, most of which were undersized, from a Los Angeles beach.

The grunion run starts in March and continues for six months, but harvesting is permitted only on specific days to allow the fish to successfully spawn and sustain their population.
