Costco operates roughly 550 gas stations across the U.S., giving members plenty of opportunities to take advantage. Gas isn't a small line item for the retailer, either. Costco reports that fuel accounts for about 10 percent of total net sales, a steady revenue stream that helps the company keep prices lower.
Luna Rosado, a single mother, has seen her gas expenses rise by $40 weekly due to a 30 percent increase in prices after the war in Iran. This has resulted in $160 less for groceries and other necessities each month, forcing her to constantly adjust her budget.
CNN's Manu Raju pointed out that Donald Trump frequently touted low gas prices during his presidency, but when prices rose under Biden, he shifted to attacking the current administration. Raju stated, 'And the person who liked to talk about it a lot was none other than Donald J. Trump.'
"With the long-term sustainability of our Los Angeles Refinery uncertain and affected by market dynamics, we are working with leading land development firms to evaluate the future use of our unique and strategically located properties near the Port of Los Angeles," Mark Lashier, chairman and CEO of Phillips 66, said at the time of announcing the closure.
"California has had, I think, very poor energy policy. They've put a climate agenda ahead of reliable and affordable energy, and the consequences of that are that energy in California - any form of it - is unaffordable."

This sentiment reflects the perspective of voters willing to accept economic costs for perceived security benefits from military action against Iran.
When you buy gas at the pump, you're covering more than the cost of crude oil. You're also paying for every step in the process, including refineries, wholesalers, taxes, and the markup your local gas station adds. Even so, crude oil has the biggest influence on what you pay, often making up more than half the cost per gallon.
