This acquisition is a natural and meaningful extension of Stonehill's mission. It will help increase our capacity to enrich the experiences of all students across academics, athletics, recreation and community engagement.
Participants gathered at Constitution Beach, where dozens of "splashers" ran into the freezing water to raise money for the Better Beaches Grant Program. The program provides small grants to individuals and organizations that host free public events and activities each summer on Department of Conservation and Recreation beaches from Nahant to Nantasket.
Vermont actually resembles California - not because of its beaches but due to its distinct regions. For example, Burlington correlates to the Bay Area. And in the Northeast Kingdom, where I grew up, we classified everything below White River Junction as 'Southern Vermont.' Down there, half the towns seem to channel Boston or New York City, kind of like Santa Barbara to L.A., which makes the Kingdom something like Humboldt County - rural and spectacular, with a recalcitrant outlaw streak.
The Boston Public Library, which dates back to 1848, features a beautiful central building in Copley Square with grand murals and fascinating exhibitions. McKim Courtyard, situated right in the middle, provides a perfect place to take a peaceful moment to relax before or after strolling through the stacks. The best part is that the library is free and open to the public.
As one of the region's last authentic vintage lunch cars, Buddy's was a time capsule, keeping the neighborhood well fed with hot platters of hand-cracked eggs and made-to-order bacon on the cheap. Now it's a mausoleum.
'I started crying,' Azar told me one afternoon last summer, as we sat on the sun-drenched porch of Gifford, overlooking the brick courtyard. Guests popped over to bid him hello, and he gently directed them over the lobby bar for a moment of respite from the heat. He continued the story: 'I was like, 'This is actually why I'm doing this.'
"I saw the announcement that one of America's most enduring publications was set to close," Konrad said, "and it felt wrong to stand by while an irreplaceable piece of our national heritage disappeared."
This is by far the biggest release week of the year so far. Amanda and I highlight 12 new releases below, and Bill tackles another five in Indie Basement, including Cardinals, Luke Temple & The Cascading Moms, The Paranoid Style, the Wall of Voodoo 1983 demos collection, and the expanded reissue of Velocity Girl's ¡Simpatico!. And in addition to these reviews, Dave and I talked a lot about all this new music on today's episode of BV Weekly.
Valentine's Day is about expressing love for special people in your life. One way to do so is to pamper that person as much as possible. That can mean starting the day off with delicious breakfast in bed. Muffins can be prepared in advance and are easy to enjoy in hand for a breakfast that involves lounging and love. Blackberry Crunch Muffins marry coffee cake and muffin elements and tart berries for something that is equal parts breakfast and dessert.
Several high-level Bruins prospects showed out in the first semifinal of the 73rd Annual Beanpot at TD Garden on Monday night, helping No. 11 Boston College (15-8-1) topple Harvard, 5-1, to get back to the championship game for a second straight year. Perhaps no outing was bigger than those of Boston's two most recent first-round selections, as 2025 seventh-over-all pick James Hagens (two goals, assist) and 2024 25th-overall pick Dean Letourneau (goal, assist) combined to anchor an early offensive eruption. Paired with Boston's 2021 seventh-round selection Andre Gasseau's two assists to help him surpass 100 career points, fans saw a glimpse at the possible future in the Bruins' home arena.
The Red Sox are set to host another edition of Fenway Fest this weekend, which looks to be heavily focused on players, autograph sessions, and stories of the 1986 team. It doesn't appear there will be any sessions with ownership or the front office, which is unfortunate because those have provided some of the most interesting moments in recent offseasons when they got booed to the high heavens.
Whitetail Resort is located in Central Pennsylvania and is a legit hidden gem for skiers and snowboarders in the mid-Atlantic region. This ski resort gets seriously underestimated by many. I was travelling from one resort to another, and Whitetail was on the way to my next destination. I almost didn't go because I was on the road for two weeks straight, but I'm so glad I did-it's way better than I expected.
Newburyport, a quaint coastal town shaped by centuries of maritime life, is a hidden gem in Massachusetts. Set at the mouth of the Merrimack River, and not far from the New Hampshire border, it carries an easy, unforced charm. Here, fishermen still bring in the day's catch and the ocean influences everyday life. Shops are made for and by the locals, the bakeries feel comforting, and vast, unspoiled beaches line the coastline.
First snow of the year means SNOW CREAM," "This is literally my childhood," "Ohhhh girlfriend you're not supposed to make snow cream with the first snow of the season," "Hey so I saw an under the microscope of snow and I'd just put that back on the ground.
Stretching roughly 23 miles, Lake LBJ is a constant-level lake fed by the Colorado River, offering a markedly different experience from its flashier neighbor to the east. While Austin's Lake Travis has earned a reputation as a party hub, Lake LBJ feels like its calmer, more refined counterpart-unhurried, scenic, and refreshingly serene. From the water, the views unfold effortlessly: sunlight glinting off the water's surface, shoreline homes tucked among the hills, and quiet coves that invite you to slow down. A boat tour makes it easy to take it all in-no effort required beyond sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying the view.
