It's time for the CIF state championships in basketball and soccer (first time for soccer) in Sacramento on Friday and Saturday. Basketball will be played at Golden 1 Center. Soccer is at Natomas High.

The Trenton Ironhawks will be the name of the relocated Utah Grizzlies franchise. The team held a naming contest that received over 2,000 submissions (unfortunately none of our submissions from part one or part two were winners). The team name was announced on Tuesday morning with a fan event held at their new home of Cure Insurance Arena that event.
A collaboration of community, government, business and sports organizations helped create the new Sports for All Hub at Los Robles Ronald McNair Academy in East Palo Alto. The grand opening of the full-size football field was celebrated with speakers, a ribbon cutting and a flag football clinic. The Bay Area Host Committee invited the community to the Sports for All Ribbon Cutting event to officially open the first-ever regulation football field in East Palo Alto.

After years of playing home matches at the Coliseum, the Oakland Roots may soon have a new location where they could build a temporary and then permanent soccer stadium. The Port of Oakland has reportedly selected the Oakland Roots Sports Club as one of two competing finalists to redevelop Howard Terminal, a 55-acre waterfront property near Jack London Square. The other finalist is the Industrial Realty Group, a Los Angeles-based real estate development and investment firm that has proposed using Howard Terminal for maritime trade.

Red Bull New York completed the signing of German center-back Robert Voloder on Monday to a three-year contract that will run through December of 2028 with an option to complete the 2028-29 season. Since he already has his green card, he does not occupy an international roster spot. The 24-year-old spent the last four seasons with Sporting Kansas City, where he made 78 career appearances.

The head coach for the defending City Section Open Division champion boys soccer team is Ian Kogan, whose daughter, Jordyn, is a top defender for the El Camino Real girls team. In two seasons, Kogan and girls coach Eric Choi will be talking even more, because arriving in the fall 2027 will be Jordyn's sister, Peyton, and Choi's daughter, Leighton. "I can't wait," Choi said.
