In what can only be another cruel twist of fate for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, a castaway put on one heck of a performance, stopping the NHL's best team, the Colorado Avalanche. On Wednesday night, former Maple Leafs PTO invitee James Reimer stymied the Colorado Avalanche en route to a 5-2 win. Reimer, now a member of the Ottawa Senators, stopped 16 shots in what was arguably one of the worst showings for the Avalanche this season.

The Washington Capitals' number-one netminder has been tabbed to start for Team Canada in their second game at the 2026 Winter Olympics against Switzerland. Former Caps goalie Darcy Kuemper will back Thompson up. Thompson gets the nod after he backed up Jordan Binnington in Canada's 5-0 win over Czechia on Thursday. Binnington made 26 saves in the shutout victory, rewarding head coach Jon Cooper for his predetermined faith in the St. Louis Blues backstop.
For the first time since signing in Sin City last summer, Mitch Marner will play his first NHL game in Toronto as a member of the opposition. Fresh off a 4-3 loss in Boston Thursday night, the Vegas Golden Knights are town to tangle with the Leafs for the second time in eight days. Back on January 15th, Jack Eichel notched the OT winner as the Golden Knights overcame three multi-goal deficits to outlast Toronto 6-5. Marner had two apples in that one.
