Jersey City is diverse and has a cultural depth that the locals are only too happy to share. The city opposite New York City on the Hudson River has breathtaking views of the Big Apple's skyline and the Statue of Liberty is clearly visible. Despite New York having legal jurisdiction over the statue, her location is within the boundaries of Jersey City.
If you could have a trail that went through Warren County and connected with a trail that goes up to Tahawus, then you could connect that to the Albany trail, and you could go all the way from New York City on a multi purpose trail into the heart of the Adirondacks, which would be pretty cool.
Charleston is known for having something in bloom year-round and for highly variable weather in late winter, but the wisteria really marks the start of our true spring. You'll start seeing and smelling these purple blossoms mid-to-late March, and, generally, the last week of March is the peak.
The "Born to Run" hitmaker, whose go-to late-night snack is a classic PB&J sandwich, grew up in New Jersey, and he still lives there primarily today, so it's fair to say he knows a thing or two about the best places to drink, eat, and enjoy live music in the Garden State.
Leading the pack is the Blackhead Range Traverse via Kaaterskill Falls in Haines Falls, with a near-perfect 94.14 score. The two-tiered waterfall, tucked into the eastern Catskill Mountains, has long been a favorite for painters and hikers. Now cyclists are getting in on the action. In fact, Kaaterskill routes appear four times in the top ten, as the dramatic cascade regularly stops riders in their tracks.
Vermont actually resembles California - not because of its beaches but due to its distinct regions. For example, Burlington correlates to the Bay Area. And in the Northeast Kingdom, where I grew up, we classified everything below White River Junction as 'Southern Vermont.' Down there, half the towns seem to channel Boston or New York City, kind of like Santa Barbara to L.A., which makes the Kingdom something like Humboldt County - rural and spectacular, with a recalcitrant outlaw streak.
Abingdon is easy to access just off Interstate 81. This little town has many charms-from its 20-block historic district to the 34-mile Virginia Creeper Trail. Add to that a thriving creative community, exceptional dining at The Tavern (the state's oldest bar), and homey accommodations, and you have a pretty darn close to perfect Blue Ridge Mountain getaway destination.
PITMAN, New Jersey -- Randy Van Osten knew he had a calling to serve in the church since he was a teenager. That path led him to become the pastor at First Baptist Church of Pitman. There, he wears many hats in addition to his tie-dye shirts and patchwork pants. He and a team of volunteers contribute to the Pitman Food Pantry, a project that brings several church communities together to feed the neighborhood.
In the winter of 2021, as the pandemic pressed life inward, Jenny McBride and Jo Gray began doing what so many did to stay sane: they went for walks. Each day, the couple looped through their Newton neighborhood, circling the same streets, passing the same houses, nodding at the same passersby. At first, the walks felt like freedom, a way to stretch their legs and explore beyond the walls of their duplex.
I was wandering through West Asheville one day, past vintage storefronts and sun-washed sidewalks, when I noticed a doorway overflowing with green. Ferns spilled outward, vines climbed the windows.
Mount Airy isn't trying to be everywhere else-and that's exactly why it stands out. It offers a true sense of place, rooted in tradition but evolving with purpose, where the pace slows down just enough to remind you what travel is supposed to feel like.
Most New Yorkers know that Park Slope, Brooklyn, is a popular spot for families with great museums, libraries, and parks, but not as many know about its next-door neighbor, Windsor Terrace. This smaller, quieter enclave is one of the most beautiful places in Brooklyn, although I am admittedly partial, having grown up and raised my kids there. It's perfect for families, with peaceful parks, playgrounds, cozy cafés, scenic walks, and plenty of hidden gems.
Newburyport, a quaint coastal town shaped by centuries of maritime life, is a hidden gem in Massachusetts. Set at the mouth of the Merrimack River, and not far from the New Hampshire border, it carries an easy, unforced charm. Here, fishermen still bring in the day's catch and the ocean influences everyday life. Shops are made for and by the locals, the bakeries feel comforting, and vast, unspoiled beaches line the coastline.
"Today, another kind of treasure typically lures travelers to Franklin, though, one found among the trails, waterfalls, and scenic byways of the community. Surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, and a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, Franklin is closely tied to the Appalachian Trail, and became the first designated Appalachian Trail Community in 2010, welcoming travelers with open arms."
I've lived just outside Greenville, South Carolina, for the past 11 years and can't imagine calling anywhere else home. Named one of "The South's Best Cities in 2025" by Southern Living and one of "Readers' 15 Favorite Cities in the US of 2025" by Travel + Leisure, it's easy to see why the city has seemingly exploded in popularity. Here are six of my favorite things to do in and around Greenville.
