Walz refused to do so, characterizing the question as part of Mace's personal agenda rather than legitimate legislative inquiry.
This is not a problem with the people of Minnesota, it's a problem with the leadership of Minnesota and other states who do not take Medicaid preservation seriously. We will give them the money, but we're going to hold it and only release it after they propose and act on a comprehensive plan to address fraud.
Rady Children's Hospital stopped providing such care on February 6 in response to the current presidential administration's threats to end federal funding to medical institutions that offer gender-affirming healthcare. Superior Court Judge Matthew Braner said the case involved "an extraordinarily thorny issue" that placed the hospital "between a rock and a hard place," but said that ending the care would place the hospital's 1,900 trans youth patients under "a risk of relative degrees of harm," Voice of San Diego reported.
To raise revenue and offset an increased state cost of administering the healthcare program, Whitmer is proposing five new taxes: on tobacco and vapes, sports betting and digital advertising, along with a new internet tax rate on the state's largest casinos. Lawmakers reviewed Whitmer's latest budget proposal, totaling $88.1 billion, during a joint session of the House and Senate on Wednesday. General fund spending plans were $13.6 billion, while the school aid budget totaled $21.4 billion.
New York City is taking over Maimonides Hospital, the financially ailing medical system headquartered in Brooklyn, Mayor Eric Adams and hospital officials announced Monday. The merger with the city's public hospital system - Health+Hospitals - has the blessing of Gov. Kathy Hochul, who's willing to put up $2.2 billion over five years to preserve medical services in Borough Park and surrounding areas.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled a series of proposals Thursday that would increase restrictions on care for transgender Americans, including puberty blockers, surgeries, and hormone therapy. Beyond these regulations, HHS said it would cut off federal Medicaid funding to hospitals that provide gender-affirming care to transgender children aged 18 and under. In a statement Thursday, Campbell harshly criticized the proposed rules, which would also exclude people with gender identity disorders from certain discrimination protections surrounding HHS-funded programs.

David, urged a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit to reverse its own ruling and reinstate the state's categorical Medicaid ban on gender-affirming surgery for transgender adults. Yet, recent cuts in hundreds of billions of dollars to Medicaid put access to mental health care for children at risk. Cuts to Medicaid, the largest payer for children's mental health services, are harmful to implement at a time of crisis for youth mental health. They can also adversely affect the future workforce.
