When Salt Lake City landed the 2002 Olympics, organizers promised to sustain the vast infrastructure built for the occasion, using it for years to come. Not only is much of it going to come into play again for 2034, but we will see nearly 40% more events than in 2002, including (freestyle ski and snowboard) Slopestyle, Big Air, Women's Ski Jumping, Ski Cross, Mixed Team Snowboard Cross and a much higher-profile Paralympics.

If you've never driven into Banff, it's a sensory overload. Razor-edged peaks reminiscent of the Italian Dolomites, glacier-carved valleys that echo Yosemite, and a constant play of light and shadow that shifts with every bend in the road. Photos don't do it justice.

As Colorado's first formalized ski area it marks many significant point in state's mountain sports history including the first resort to allow snowboarders on chairlifts. There are many factors that led to its ultimate demise but the addition of nearby Winter Park Ski Resort played a major role as it ended up being the preferred resort in the area.

If you grew up in a region that received snow, you're probably familiar with the multitude of skiing superstitions. Whether it was wearing your pajamas inside out or flushing ice cubes down the toilet, every kid had their preferred method of playing with fate to force a snow day. Skiers, however, have taken snow superstitions to the next level. A common superstition in the skiing world is the refusal to call the last run, as doing so can apparently heighten your risk of getting injured.

While most are familiar with the world-class Mont Tremblant, the route there is dotted with independent resorts-each with a distinct vibe-that light up the Laurentians ( Les Laurentides ) like constellations against an ancient sky. These ranges offer something different than towering peaks: intimate terrain steeped in character. Their ancient geology creates a singular landscape of rolling, forested hills and tight tree runs that feel worlds away from the mega-resorts.

Whether you love it, hate it, or are just hearing about it for the first time, Alterra's Reserve Pass is likely here to stay. But if you don't know what the Reserve Pass is, it takes a slightly different appearance at a variety of Alterra ski resorts, generally encompassing a dedicated priority lift line and exclusive amenities. It's an intriguing concept, and one that makes sense in an ever-growing segmented ski resort product lineup.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are set to be quite a show, with many of our favorite athletes getting ready to perform and compete at one of the world's biggest sporting events. This year a new sport is set to make its Winter Olympic debut: ski mountaineering, and while France, Switzerland, and Spain will be sending the most athletes, two top competitors are set to represent the United States in one of the three Ski Mountaineering events.
