The northeast corner became a symbol of Texas growth: prices soared, commutes stretched and master-planned communities stacked up so tight you could borrow sugar through the fence.

U-Haul ranked Florida as the No. 2 growth state for 2025, second only to Texas, according to its proprietary growth index that analyzed one-way customer moves from the past calendar year. The company said Florida climbed two spots from No. 4 in 2024. It was ranked No. 2 from 2021-23 and was the leading growth state in 2019. The year 2025 marked "11 consecutive years that Florida has been among the top four U-Haul growth states," the company said in a statement.

The city of St. Cloud was rated the "biggest boomtown" in the Sunshine State thanks to the thousands of people who have been drawn to the growing lakeside community over the past decade, according to new data from personal finance resource GOBankingRates. In fact, the company noted the city has seen a 49.3 percent increase in population from 2015 to 2023. That's coupled with a 33.9 percent increase in per capita income, which was $28,985 in 2023.

If you are inside the Texas Triangle and complaining about the state of single-family homebuilding, you are not seeing the opportunity correctly. Princeton's population grew 30.6% from July 2023 to July 2024, making it the fastest-growing town in the nation with a population under 37,000.
