A South End restaurant, which features Spanish-style tapas, a curated wine list and cocktails, was recently named one of Eater's most essential and influential restaurants in America over the past 20 years. Toro has been a Boston staple since it opened 20 years ago but the list further cements its status as one of the best restaurants in the country.

Rania received top honors for the second year in a row with their ultra-crisped shiso chaat leaf, praised for its balance of elegant flavors and textures.

"Winning Best London local restaurant couldn't make us happier," said Simonetta Wenkert. "We are nothing without our neighbours, and love being part of the community here on Kilburn Lane."

"I respect the decision, but I don’t understand why Rivera was the one to don the chef’s jacket and receive the recognition."

Restaurants have until May 31 to get votes in five public categories, while nominees for bigger awards are chosen by an anonymous panel of food experts.
