Tottenham have stolen a march on the Red Devils by opening talks with De Zerbi, who is readily available after leaving Marseille last month. Regarding the timeline, it was stressed De Zerbi would be a summer appointment if moving to Spurs and not over the coming weeks if they sack Tudor.
Spurs are looking for a new manager after sacking Thomas Frank after a turbulent spell at the club. He leaves the north London club struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table. Spurs are 16th in the league, just five points above West Ham United, who are currently 18th in the league. After winning the Europa League few months ago under former manager Ange Postecoglou, the Premier League side are now struggling to keep up pace with the Premier League elite.
"Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the first team, have announced the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement," Marseille said in a statement. "Following discussions between all stakeholders in the club's management - the owner, president, director of football, and coach - it was decided to make a change at the helm of the first team. "This was a difficult collective decision, taken after careful consideration in the best interests of the club, in order to respond to the sporting challenges of the end of the season."
