The first scene is a bit of a nothingburger. Fox McCloud is shown flying away from a prison housing Bowser and his son Bowser Jr. A Luma is shown guarding the father/son duo and giving them shit.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie opens with the bold reveal that there are two girls now in this universe. Two! Both blonde and both with approximately the same fashion sense.

The British Board of Film Classification has rated the movie for 'mild violence' and 'threat,' indicating some potentially intense themes. The rating page mentions 'infrequent very mild upsetting scenes include flashbacks to the separation of a girl and her younger sister.'

To keep the hype train rolling, Illumination and Universal Pictures have dropped a short new teaser. It's exactly 30 seconds long, so you'll probably be seeing it again on TV this Sunday during the Super Bowl. It does feature some nifty footage that we haven't seen before, including a hungry Yoshi absolutely devouring a Magikoopa. There are also shots highlighting the star cannons from The Super Mario Galaxy games and one shot that shows Rosalina bodying Bowser Jr.

But while most of these characters look like Easter eggs, Yoshi appears to be a major part of the plot. We see Toad's reaction to a dinosaur randomly joining the team, and the teaser ends with Yoshi (now babysitting Baby Mario and Baby Luigi) facing off against an actual dinosaur, presumably a nod to Super Mario Odyssey. We don't know how that will end up, but the two clearly aren't part of the same species.

Rosalina's Storybook from Super Mario Galaxy is discounted to only $17.49 (was $25) at Amazon. The 30% price cut is the best offer yet at any retailer, but the deal probably won't be available for long. Last week, Amazon and Walmart had a limited-time deal that dropped the price to $21.13. Both retailers sold out, and Walmart has yet to restock its inventory. Orders placed today (December 12) are expected to arrive before Christmas.

The main voice cast is returning for the sequel: Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as the anthropomorphic mushroom Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Bowser's advisor and informant Kamek. We're also getting two new cast members: Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, protector of the cosmos and the Lumas; and Benny Safdie as Bowser, Jr., Bowser's son and heir to the throne.

The livestream will be available Wednesday, November 12, at 9:00 a.m. ET for the special Nintendo Direct. "Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation," the company cautioned. Still, that gives us the rest of the day to wrap our minds around whichever new stars have been cast to bring the latest trip back to the Mushroom Kingdom to life.

Rosalina isn't in the original version of the game. However, Nintendo did state during the trailer that there would be additional new content coming to the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but that it would share more details at a later date. It certainly seems like Rosalina might be one of the surprises Nintendo was looking to keep under wraps until closer to the game's release.

Today's Nintendo Direct featured all kinds of announcements and reveals, from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to a new Yoshi game to a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date and more. It also featured a fresh batch of amiibo releasing over the coming months for games like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and Super Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby Air Riders, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
