Five staffers were hospitalized after an unknown substance was discovered in a Chino prison, authorities said Tuesday, Jan 20. Firefighters with the Chino Valley Fire District responded to the California Institution for Women just before 10 a.m., Tuesday, the district said. They responded after an unknown chemical substance was found on a joint and a Bible page at the prison, according to an initial hazardous materials spills report filed with the state.

A woman was found dead at Santa Rita Jail on Saturday morning, according to an Alameda County Sheriff's Office press release. The woman was identified as 36-year-old Dequita Grace Harrell of Oakland. She was found unresponsive in the women's restroom in the public lobby of the jail around 5:25 a.m. Deputies attempted life-saving measures and requested emergency personnel, but Harrell was pronounced dead at the scene.
