The Redbirds trace their origins to 1959, with the debut of the R26, the first of nine closely related subway car types that became synonymous with New York's transit system.

The MTA has officially kicked off a pilot program that will pipe 30-second audio ads into select subway and commuter rail stations every 10 minutes. The spots will be capped at 75 decibels, roughly the volume of a loud conversation, a vacuum or heavy traffic. The MTA hopes that these ads will generate income to keep the system running.

Network Rail was granted planning permission by the City of London to transform the station. However, before passengers can ride the new trains, they need hundreds of hours of testing and assurance that they will work as expected. And testing has been underway ever since the first train arrived in London last year.
