Skiing in jeans is controversial due to practical issues and negative stereotypes associated with the 'Jerry' label in the skiing community.
The 2025-26 winter saw extreme weather, with the eastern half experiencing consistent cold and heavy snowfall, while the western half endured record warmth and a lack of snowfall.
As the 2026 Winter Olympics come to a close, a whole new game is afoot: the mad dash to make money on exclusive memorabilia. When the Games are over, most of the event's coolest collectibles will become very hard to find, plundered by scalpers and bargain hunters and only available through online marketplaces like eBay and Vinted. And if the eye-popping prices already placed on the gear are any indication, they're going to be quite valuable.
Team USA men's hockey broke a 46-year drought when they won gold over Canada to help close out the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina on Sunday. Their overtime triumph came just three days after the women's hockey team downed Canada to win gold, also in overtime. Their respective successes put the finishing touches on an Olympic run in which the Americans won 12 gold medals, with Alysa Liu (figure skating) and Elaina Meyers Taylor (women's monobob) winning three of them.
It has all come down to this at the 2026 Olympic Games for the two most dominant countries in international women's hockey. The United States and Canada face off on Thursday for the gold medal. Women's ice hockey was first introduced at the Olympics in 1998, and these are the only two countries to have won Olympic gold since.
Lotti explained that Nike has been working with air as a cushioning technology in footwear for half a century, but they've barely scratched the surface of what air can do. The interesting twist? From a design perspective, they're working with a medium that's completely invisible. You can't see air, you can't touch it in the traditional sense, yet it's proving to be one of the most versatile materials in their arsenal.
Pit Viper's Magic Magnet system makes lens changes easy, even with gloves on. Goepper rotates between just two: a blackout lens for daytime sessions and a clear lens for nighttime. With an ultrawide field of view, the BN5000 delivers sharper spatial awareness at full throttle, and the bold flames on the grippy strap don't hurt either. "They make you go faster," he jokes, "and they keep your head nice and warm on those cold days."
📸: @tomwilson/Instagram Story Canada's Olympic hockey team spent more time bonding together ahead of their first game of the tournament on Thursday. Tuesday, the group of hockey players, which included Washington Capitals stars and Logan Thompson, attended the the speed-skating short track event at the Milan Ice Skating Arena. Wilson posted a photo of the group together and it's epic.
At 21 years old, Stolz has already begun to separate himself from some of the world's best speedskaters. He put his abilities on full display during the 500m, which he went on to win in an Olympic-record time of 33.77 seconds. The Wisconsin native had the same tenacity when we won the 1,000m earlier in the week. Stolz is on pace to win four gold medals with the next competitions being the 1,500m and the Mass Start scheduled between Feb. 19 and Feb. 21.
The last time Sweden won gold at the Winter Olympics was in 2006. That men's hockey entry, captained by Mats Sundin, rallied from a third-place group stage finish and to eventually secure the gold medal. Since that point, the men's national hockey program won just one silver medal while making it to the bronze medal game once. They also haven't won gold at the IIHF World Championship since 2018.
the schoolkid's pink, heart-festooned backpack that Casey Dawson is schlepping around town as punishment for losing at fantasy football. It keeps me humble. It keeps me grounded. It puts a smile on my face every time I see it. It's kind of ridiculous, but it's fun. It keeps everything fun and light-hearted, said Dawson, a 25-year-old from Park City, Utah, whose first event at this Winter Games comes Sunday in the men's 5,000 meters.
Every two years, the world's most prominent designers clamor for the chance to dress their country's athletes. This year marks Ralph Lauren's 10th consecutive Olympics outfitting Team USA for the opening ceremony, while host country Italy's looks are designed by EA7 Emporio Armani. The job isn't confined to luxury fashion houses, either - Team Canada will enter the Winter Games in head-to-toe Lululemon.
The limited-edition line, which dropped on Skims.com at 12 p.m. ET on January 8, is comprised of Team USA-branded clothing, sleepwear, winter essentials (that scarf!), hair accessories, menswear, intimates, and adaptive styles, with prices ranging from $20 to $88 and sizes ranging from XXS-4X. The pieces, which will be gifted to Team USA athletes ahead of the Games, feature the flattering silhouettes and buttery soft fabrics Skims is known for, but with an all-American twist that couldn't be more timely.

Form-fitting coats, designer goggles, and sleek ski pants were the norm for women, while high-performance brands with a retro bent dominated for men-and that was just the ski gear. After skiing, the après looks were as functional as they were chic, and always with an effortlessly European touch. I grew to love having a wide-banded headband and insulated après-ski boots for drinks on the patio, and a statement puffer vest thrown over my thermals was an easy transition from skiing to sipping.
If anyone knows exactly what to wear to stay warm in cold weather, it's the people who live in these places. So I asked seven writers who reside in some of the coldest cities on Earth to recommend the gear they swear by. One writer in Mongolia wore a pair of foot warmers on a nine-day dog sledding adventure. Another in Winnipeg, Canada, shared a pair of gloves she's dubbed long johns for your fingers.
3-time Olympic alpine skier Tommy Ford sat down with Condé Nast Traveler to discuss the different types of snow conditions you find around the world, from the Beaver Creek in Colorado to Ushuaia, Argentina, and Lake Takapō in New Zealand. The discussion was mostly surrounding the snow conditions while racing or training, not the off-piste or regular trails that most skiers are riding, but he does touch on some other forms of snow.
