Masai Ujiri joins Toronto Tempo's ownership group after leaving the Raptors, continuing his commitment to basketball growth.
By Tuesday, if the league and its players cannot come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement, it will finally drop, crushing the Tempo's plans for a home opener on May 8 against the Washington Mystics at Coca-Cola Coliseum in downtown Toronto. The league has circled March 10 as the drop-dead date by which a new CBA must be reached.
"The impact that the Tempo is going to have on women's basketball is going to be exponential," Toronto team president Teresa Resch told ESPN. "I think you can look at what happened with the Raptors 30 years ago. The 'Vince Carter effect.' You hear those kids talk about -- they're not kids anymore, they're very talented young men playing basketball and representing our country really well on the international stage -- the representation is huge. The fact that you can see it, you can be it."
WNBA expansion team the Portland Fire has unveiled its inaugural game jerseys. The white home jersey has Fire emblazoned on the front, and the away red jersey showcases the city's name. The secondary logo is PDX, shorthand for the city, with the P as an outline of Mt. Hood and design of the P and D reflecting the flow of the Willamette River.
