The night of 6 September was one that will be remembered. When the attendance figure was announced at the Allianz Arena, a rapturous cheer erupted, the likes of which women's football in Germany had rarely experienced before: 57,762 fans had turned up to watch the Bundesliga opener between FC Bayern Women and Bayer 04 Leverkusen - a new record in German women's club football.

At my college back in the day, just as Title IX was being passed, the male athletes were given steak dinners at the cafe the night before big games, especially football, but basketball, and baseball too, but none for female teams. I was a walk-on to our softball team my freshman year, and also worked in the cafeteria to help pay tuition.

When I step onto the mat, I feel fear, but I remember the countless hours spent in training that helped unearth strength I didn't know I had.

The FAI said it is in a "strong position" to host the final due to the increased popularity of women's football in the Republic of Ireland.
