The rally, held at 1 Silber Way, was organized by Terrier Courage, a group that has collected more than 2,000 signatures on a petition urging the university to reconsider its rules on displays on public-facing windows and walls.

A chief tenet of liberation is the freedom to define oneself while being accorded the rights and privileges established and guaranteed under law and social standing.

The event was once described by The New York Times as 'a cross between a Jewish summer camp in the Catskills and a progressive jazz concert.' Past incarnations have featured Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, Lou Reed.

Instead of overwhelming shoppers with endless options, it focuses on brands with a clear point of view-most of them LGBTQ+ owned, others deeply aligned with the community through their values, partnerships, and impact. Some are small businesses built from the ground up. Others are growing brands challenging industries that haven't always made space for us.

"In 2026, there's certain individuals, certain people of our community that still feel unwelcome and unsafe. This strip represents a place where people can come from the LGBTQ community and our allies and come and celebrate, build community."

With more than 170 floats and 10,000 marchers, the 48th Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebration was an explosion of colour. The rain held off until the end of the parade this year a welcome relief given the more than 100mm that Sydney experienced just a few days before.

NYC Pride, which organizes the main Pride March in New York City on the final Sunday in June, unveiled its 2026 theme, For All of Us, which is inspired by a quote attributed to the late Marsha P. Johnson. This year's theme aims to pay tribute to LGBTQ trailblazers like Johnson while also emphasizing the need to support marginalized members of the community, according to NYC Pride.
