Cole Hutson showcased impressive skill despite the Capitals' heavy loss to the Rangers.
I kind of bit on the shot [by Frost] and he threw it backdoor. I just put my glove out there, tried to cover space. And I got fortunate... I caught a piece. That's a remarkable accomplishment in this game, and it just speaks volumes for how good of a goaltender he is.
A Slovak fugitive who had been on the run for 16 years was finally arrested when he turned up in Milan to support his national ice hockey team at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, police said Friday. The 44-year-old man, who was not named, was wanted by Italian authorities for a series of thefts committed in 2010. The carabinieri managed to track down and arrest the man Wednesday.
Kaprizov has eclipsed his points prop bet in each game he's played with a set points prop. Kaprizov has put up a point in 38 games this season while posting 16 multiple-point games. In 23 of 52 games this season, Kaprizov has scored - and four times he scored multiple goals. For the season, Kaprizov has scored 27 goals, via 180 shots (converting 15.0%). While on the power play, he has 56 shots and 10 goals.
With Kevin Fiala now ruled out for the remainder of the Olympics and the 2025-26 regular season, it's fair to not only assume that Switzerland's previously-decent medal chances might be chased, but that the Los Angeles Kings could very well suffer the consequences of the injury as well. I'm not going to say much about the injury at the end of the Canada-Switzerland game. But for those of you that didn't watch, all I will say is that the injury was unwatchable.
New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist in his native Sweden's 5-2 win over Italy on Wednesday in the first day of the men's hockey tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Zibanejad assisted on Gabriel Landeskog's goal at 9:06 of the first period to tie the game at one, as he found Sweden's captain with a cross-seam pass late in a first-period power play.
The revamped NY Islanders prospect pool continues to succeed in their respective 2025-26 campaigns, receiving accolades throughout the season. But this time, it's not one of their high draft picks; instead, a sixth-round defenseman playing in the NCAA. Freshman defenseman Xavier Veilleux of Cornell University was named ECAC Defenseman of the Month for January. The 19-year-old left-hand shot provided three goals and eight assists across 10 contests for the No. 9 Big Red.
The upstart Anaheim Ducks overachieved out of the gate this season in eye-popping fashion. Anaheim was 11-3-1 through its first 15 games, led the NHL in scoring (4.13 goals per game) at that mark and perhaps most shockingly, it was the Ducks' 21-year-old forward Leo Carlsson sitting second overall in league scoring with 10 goals and 25 points to start the season. It was a script particularly befitting the club's Disney roots. But the Ducks' Cinderella story has taken a Maleficent-like turn.
The Sharks were carrying 22 players on their active roster as of early Friday and had three others forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Philipp Kurashev and defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin on IR. Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said last week that Mukhamadullin was getting closer to a return, and that he was optimistic that Kurashev and Sherwood could be activated before the end of the team's road trip on Feb. 4. All three players were dealing with upper body injuries.
Entering Saturday's action, Sweden needed to win by three goals or greater to secure the top place in Group B. Slovakia won its previous two games, and held a commanding divisional lead. Dalibor Dvorsky scored for Slovakia with 39 seconds left, to preserve its entry into the quarterfinal. If Finland defeats Italy in regulation, Slovakia will capture Group B. Any other result, and Sweden will win the group.
