Growing up, I struggled to figure out what made sense for me, what made me me. When I joined the drum line and felt that community, everything clicked. It made me a better person. It gave me something to fight for.

I feel a tremendous amount of gratitude because it took an inordinate amount of work and uncertainty to get to this point, so now that we're finally here, we can breathe. The new school features large classrooms with plenty of natural light and additional shared spaces for clubs, sports and after-school programs.

Maya Duckworth-Pilkington spent the first two weeks of January buried in her textbooks, studying. Until she submitted her final advanced functions exam, the Rosedale Heights School of the Arts senior didn't realize how much time and effort she was putting into her studies. The pressure is higher than ever to do well, she explained over text message. People aren't sleeping well, eating well or getting leisure time.

"Turns out, Steve's brother...Tony, also went to the same college as I did, and in a similar department," X writes. "Steve then jokingly asked if I've ever met Tony or hooked up with him, to which I said honestly, \"probably not, since it's a big school\" and brushed it off since his name and description didn't ring a bell."

Since 2006, Inside Higher Ed has used the NCAA's data on teams' academic performance to select its March Madness winners. First, we compare teams' academic progress rate, the metric the NCAA uses to measure athlete retention and academic eligibility. This year, we used data from 2023-24, the most recent available.

Engineering jobs often require rigorous coursework if not a higher degree, and the scarcity of qualified engineers means employers are willing to pay high wages. Notably, the engineering field with the lowest mid-career median wage is still in the six-figure range.

Increasingly, the nation's top recruits are also stepping onto campus as some of the highest-paid members of their respective rosters, some with six- and seven-figure financial deals before they've played a single college snap. Whether it's providing instant impact or showing early signals of future promise, the pressure is rising on college football's highest-rated (and best-compensated) freshmen to deliver immediate return on investment.

The survey measured belonging by asking students to rate their agreement with the statement "I feel that I am a part of [school]" on a five-point scale, where 1 means strongly disagree and 5 means strongly agree. Students who rated their sense of belonging in their second year one step higher on the five-point scale than they did in their first year-such as moving from neutral to agree-were 3.4 percentage points more likely to graduate within four years.

It can be scary to borrow large student loans to finance an expensive college degree. There is a market failure, however, every time a student does not attend their preferred college, study their preferred major, or pursue their preferred career because they are afraid of student loans. Students should be free to pursue their passions - not forced into second-best choices because of the cost of the degree or the prospect of a lower income in the future.

Given the importance of local considerations, there are few universal policy prescriptions that can be recommended with confidence. Sadly, this complexity was overlooked in Saul Geiser's recent Inside Higher Ed essay entitled " Why the SAT Is a Poor Fit for Public Universities." My position is not that all, or even any, public universities should require standardized test scores. In fact, I share Geiser's view that a university's "mission shapes admission policy."
