A couple mistakenly bought a dirt road for $25,000, leading to a community art project after local tech pranksters purchased it.
I feel grateful all the time that it was my entry point into the art world because it was always about understanding how art and community live together and having a blurry understanding of the limits of the fields of art. I'm always working around the assumption, idea, and understanding that art is everywhere. The artists are everywhere...they're in and out of different industries and movement spaces, and part of coalition building.
Does anyone want to actually build a snowman, Martin, a 28-year-old comedian, said, recalling a friend's social media post. And I swiped up immediately, and I said, 'Yes.' After spending two hours at Bushwick's Maria Hernandez Park, Martin constructed what she called Snow Ma'am Eve, a snow woman with an exaggerated skirt, large bust and chiseled arms. The process, she said, restored a sense of childlike whimsy and joy.

The most memorable exhibitions this year made a mess, rejecting pristine gallery walls in favor of fish skin, plastic bags, and lived-in spaces like a mall corridor and a home garage. Artists viewed art itself as inhabitable-Ginny Sims turned walls into spaces for dimensional scenes, and Lydia Rosenberg's experimental lamps gave Society a chaotic, yet domestic feel. Many of these art projects served as community builders, too, building subtle connections through gestures
Canadian-born Patrick Roberts Loewen has survived a 'criminal' childhood, cancer and drug addiction to become a vigilante of sorts for the city The community spirit in Galway city is definitely strong, but it is rare to see someone caring about its streets like Patrick Roberts Loewen does. Patrick is using his art not only to keep Galway clean but also to keep it safe. And after hearing his back story - which includes a difficult childhood, cancer, an abrupt change of career, and a vision - the reasons are clear.
Mother always said not to play with your food. But the containers the food is packaged in now, there's a loophole. On Nov. 14, an art event in Hayward will highlight that humble but culturally treasured packaging medium: the pizza box. Suitably, the venue is not a gallery or a museum but a pizza parlor, Rayo's Pizza on Mission Blvd., which has baked hot pies since 2022.
Artists David Solnit and Jen Bloomer, who live in the neighborhood, designed the mural with direction from the community. Solnit said it celebrates Berkeley's status as a sanctuary city and is a call to protect our neighbors. Images of squash, corn and beans which are known as the three sister plants as they grow better when planted in close proximity than alone reinforce the idea that community is beneficial.
We respect and carefully consider the ideas and motivation behind each and every artist's work. This is why we give all artists the full freedom to explore their creativity and express emotions and experience through their works. This is also why the themes of the wallpapers weren't anyhow influenced by us but rather designed from scratch by the artists themselves.
Artists in Britain have customised St George's flags with messages celebrating diversity, in response to a campaign in which national banners have been flown from lamp-posts, outside homes and painted on roundabouts. While for many, flying the flag is a genuine expression of national pride, some flags have been graffitied on businesses and places of worship belonging to minority ethnic Britons, in some cases with slurs, after the launch of the operation raise the colours.
