Over the past year, I've watched communities build movements and adapt their organizing under this reality.
I've seen this before-many times, in fact. What you're describing is not unheard of in the nonprofit sector. Founder energy is one of the most powerful forces driving new missions into the world. It can also be one of the riskiest. Many organizations, especially those built from lived experience, passion, and necessity, begin with little more than a vision, a problem to solve.
"Are you okay?" These were Alex Pretti's last words, said to a woman after ICE agents had tackled and pepper-sprayed her. Videos from bystanders show Pretti holding up a phone, attempting to document what was happening before he himself was pepper-sprayed, wrestled to the ground, and killed by those officers. He lost his life not for committing violence, but for documenting it, and stepping in to protect someone facing it.
Sheehan criticized the federal response to the shooting, citing comments made by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who initially described Good's actions in the moments leading up to her death as domestic terrorism. Noem also accused Good of attempting to weaponize her vehicle against agents on the scene. "[Noem] came out in the cowboy hat and said it was domestic terrorism, trying to run over an officer, and then the footage came out and didn't speak to that at all," Sheehan said.

It may be debated, but only because the would-be dictators of the world will always disguise their plays for power in the mock forms of democratic legality-by declaring a fake emergency, attacking political rivals through trumped-up legal charges or holding rigged elections.
