Frieze Week LA 2026 showcased the contrast between tourist perceptions and the reality of Los Angeles.
As public funding dwindles, the number of prizes and awards for institutional acquisitions continue to proliferate during Frieze week. The Tate Frieze Fund, which this year is supported by an individual private patron, offers a team of Tate curators early access to the fair and a budget of £150,000 to purchase works for Tate's collection. The two works acquired are both by mid-career, UK-based women artists hitherto not owned by Tate.
Three years ago he opened The Brown Collection in Marylebone, not far from Frieze London. The free-to-visit museum is extending its opening hours during Frieze Week (9am to 7pm) and will be showing the exhibition Hoi Polloi, which looks at how ordinary people have been represented in art from the 16th century onwards, alongside related works by Brown.
On Sunday (12 October), Jefferson Hack hosted a special dinner to celebrate the opening of new exhibition Paradigm Shift: New Dimensions in Moving Image, presented by 180 Studios in partnership with Ray-Ban Meta. Kicking off Frieze week, the dinner took place at 180 Strand, and welcomed featured artists from the exhibition, including Gillian Wearing, Mark Leckey, Julianknxx, Josefa Ntjam, Arthur Jafa, Sophia Al Maria and Babak Radboy.
