In 2023, a report from the Police Executive Research Forum called for police to put the brakes on car chases unless a violent crime has been committed and the suspect poses an imminent threat. The report noted a spike in fatalities and an increase in pursuits by some departments, including in Houston and New York City.

According to police, the incident occurred just before 6 a.m. at a garage on West 43rd Street near the West Side Highway. Four men entered the garage around 5:45 a.m. and attempted to steal several luxury cars, including a blue McLaren sports car and a black Mercedes‑Benz G‑Wagon.

Jailson Andrade, 44, was arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court on 14 charges, including two felony counts each of assault to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a firearm without a license.

Jason Thompson, a guard at HMP Isis, was suspended as the Metropolitan Police investigated his involvement in smuggling drugs and contraband into the prison. He was sentenced to four years and six months for conspiracy and misconduct.

Officers were called to Clapham High Street on Tuesday evening and put a dispersal order in place to move the young people out of the area.

The dramatic sequence, with a flood of police vehicles and armed officers moving through afternoon traffic at Notre Dame Avenue and West Julian Street, unfolded in the shadow of Highway 87. It drew even more attention after several eyewitness videos captured footage of the man, on the ground prone after presumably being shot, being run over by a trailing police SUV and the sound of several more gunshots as he lay splayed on the pavement.

Jay Conway, 33, of Leicester Walk, Salford, had evaded capture from two undercover Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers who saw him hand drugs to customers in Albert Park. He was spotted with the firearm as he was chased, and aimed the 9mm slide action pistol in the direction of Pc Dan Clayton as he rolled onto the floor when felled by a Taser discharge.
