In 2004, the Brazilian musician Seu Jorge recorded a series of Portuguese covers of David Bowie songs for Wes Anderson's film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The next year, he released a full album of 13 Bowie classics, and in 2016-2017, he even took the songs on tour. Now, in 2026, to mark the 10th anniversary of Bowie's passing, Jorge returns with the performance above.
Last summer, I did face painting at a block party in my Brooklyn neighborhood. In the sweltering August humidity, I rendered pink butterflies and Spiderman webs on tiny, sticky faces; unsurprisingly, my designs didn't last very long in the bouncy castle. Except for the glitter. I first saw Stalker in the mid-1980s. I grew up in a very rural community, but I had a group of friends who all wanted something that we couldn't really get where we lived. With film, that was a possibility. I'm in my fifties now. I keep trying to figure out what I'm doing as an artist and how to keep going.
