Soto left the game with right calf tightness and will undergo an MRI to assess the injury's severity.
The good news is that Balde and Kounde are back, as is Eric. In Frenkie's case, we'll have to wait a little longer; perhaps he can start training next week. We'll take it one step at a time.
"What a good day, and what a stupid accident...again. Five years after [my previous nose break], my nose is f---ed up even worse [laughs]. As you see, it's even more cracked the same direction, and when I touch [my nose], my bones are broken inside."
Peña was playing for the Dominican Republic team yesterday in an exhibition contest against the Tigers in advance of the World Baseball Classic. In the third inning, he fielded a grounder from Wenceel Pérez behind the second base bag. Peña was able to make the play and throw out Pérez but was seen looking at his finger. He was later removed from the contest.
Right-hander was scratched from his scheduled Spring Training start yesterday due to lower back tightness and underwent an MRI yesterday to determine the severity of the issue. Those results came back today, and The Athletic's Dan Hayes reports that the MRI revealed only inflammation in Ryan's lower back. That's a "best case scenario" for Ryan, in the words for Hayes. It should allow the right-hander to avoid a lengthy layoff and, while the Twins' exact plans for Ryan as he nurses that inflammation aren't yet clear, it seems reasonable to expect the right-hander's ability to be available for Opening Day to be unaffected by this injury. That's great news for the Twins, who have already lost right-hander Pablo Lopez to the injured list for the year as he prepares to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Graterol struggled with his shoulder in 2024, landing on the injured list during spring training due to a shoulder injury. He returned to the team in September, but went straight back to the injured list, spending the majority of the Dodgers' World Series run on the sidelines. The 27-year-old returned for the World Series, though, and made three appearances. He underwent surgery shortly after the season, and missed the entirety of the 2025 season with his injury.
