"Our heritage is rooted in building gear for people who live and thrive in the mountains, and that includes our own team. Many of us ride; our athletes ride. Mountain biking is part of our culture," Ashley Anson, VP Design at Arc'teryx, said.
Firewire Surfboards employs a 21-step construction process that incorporates aerospace-grade foams, carbon fiber, and bio-resins, resulting in boards that look and perform like they belong in a science fiction movie.
Despite having to haul a dozen dumpster-loads of damaged goods out of the offices and the nearby Lab Store, to the tune of $1.5 million, Eileen said at the time, 'It was just stuff.' You can only imagine the emotions that might arise in a chief executive if they saw their sewage-soaked products floating by. Eileen and her staff did not linger there. They mobilized quickly-organizing carpools, impromptu meeting spaces, and arranging interest-free loans for staff needing cash during the crisis.

It's a great way to start off the day. He played volleyball as a freshman, but he said of surfing, 'It's great to connect with other schools and through surfing.' Winning the surfer of the year award 'really meant a lot,' he said.
Archaeologists estimate that fishers in Peru have been using the reed boats for approximately 3,500 years. Elaborate ceramics dating back to the sophisticated Moche culture (AD100-800) and the later Chimu civilisation (900-1470), depict figures astride the craft, which was called a tup in the now-extinct Mochica language. They are believed to be among the first crafts to be used for riding waves, possibly predating Polynesian proto-surfing in Hawaii.
You can visit here and see the beauty of the island by looking around and going about your day. However, it's deeper than you can see. What's missed is the stories told, so seek out our history and our roots, then you will truly understand.
According to multiple media reports, 66-year-old Kurt Van Dyke died last Saturday in Cahuita, a town near the country's coastline along the Caribbean Sea. The Tico Times, an English language Costa Rican newspaper, reported that Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency received a report about the incident at 10:50 a.m. Van Dyke's body was discovered with signs of asphyxiation and multiple stab wounds, according to a preliminary examination by the investigative agency.
Fisher marked the first time Moscone Center hosted something enormous like this; I went on the second night of a two-night takeover, December 20. Operationally, it ran surprisingly smoothly for a first-time venue. Crowd-wise: a lot of phones, a lot of jerseys, a lot of people filming drops they will absolutely never watch again. It felt like a first "rave" moment for a lot of folks since it was an 18+ event.
Visually striking and intricately crafted, the traditional armour and weaponry of the Kiribati islands in the Pacific Ocean were built from coconut fibre, human hair, sharks' teeth and porcupine fish. Yet, fearsome and lethal as these objects were, the people of this remote archipelago weren't especially warlike, as British colonists had long assumed, but were instead part of a ritualised style of combat intended to keep violence between clashing groups to a minimum.
HOME is located in a former Triyoga space, but with a very different vibe - less hardcore wellness, more grab a comfy seat, bring a book and accidentally lose the whole day. Phone calls aren't allowed, shoes have to be removed, as do earphones, and whether that's a sign of me getting old or not, those are exactly the kind of rules I like to have at HOME.
Since opening in October 1987, Coffee Gallery has been part of Haleiwa's history and daily life. Over the decades, we welcomed locals and visitors from around the world, and saw multiple generations return through our doors. What began as a coffee shop became a place for connection, memories, and community,
I've wanted to be an ocean swimmer ever since I moved to Sydney. The idea of getting out past the waves and braving the elements excited me. I would tell anyone who would listen: Once I live closer to the beach, I'm going to be out there. Just you wait. I've lived walking distance to the beach for more than a year now. During this time, I've read a lot about ocean swimming: how swimmers overcame challenges or life-altering moments.
... Kauai Coffee is a fully integrated premium specialty coffee company. What that means is that we grow the coffee and put it all the way to the bag, all here on the island of Kauai. To do that, we have about 4 million coffee trees, and we farm about 3,000 acres. We harvest anywhere from 10 to 12 million pounds of cherry coffee, which needs to be processed into about a million to 2 million pounds of green coffee.
It's an event so rare that it has only happened 11 times in the past 41 years, and when it's anticipated to run, all of Hawaii turns its attention to the North Shore of Oahu. People arrive a day or two ahead, sleeping in cars or tents on the side of the highway that leads to Waimea Bay and tailgating into the night to claim a sliver of parking. They're waiting to hear if the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational surfing contest, also called the Eddie for short, will get the green light from the lifeguards, who have the final say.
Kona is one of the brands that seems to recognize this more than most and has maintained a healthy selection of affordable hardtails in its lineup for years. After all, the brand started out and built its early reputation on hardtails. And despite some uncertainty surrounding its future, the rider-owned brand isn't forgetting its roots. For 2026, Kona has refreshed three of its most accessible entry-level hardtail models with updated geometry and size-specific wheel sizing to improve handling, fit, and stability for riders just starting out on their mountain bike journey.
While best known for its minimalist camping gear - the brand's instantly recognizable titanium mug is a mainstay in Pacific Northwest campsites and cramped Brooklyn apartments alike - Snow Peak's lineup of insulated, down-filled and fire-resistant styles is criminally underrated. With perfected silhouettes, low-key Japanese detailing and sparse styling, it's slightly different than you're used to, but all in service of a better (dressed) outdoor experience.
My forearms are throbbing, my feet are cramping and my eyes burn from the salty sting of the Atlantic Ocean. And yet I'm oddly euphoric, high on the rush of flying above the water, propelled by the wind. Around me, wings launch 10, even 20 feet in the air, like fireworks lighting up the sky. My wing zips around beneath them, my board barely hovering two feet above the sea - nowhere near as high as I'd like to be, but there's still time.
Maui's lush landscapes have drawn visitors for decades, but now what comes from the aina (land) is also attracting attention. As the island continues to recover from the 2023 wildfires and a 20.7% drop in tourism between July 2023 and July 2025, more Maui farm owners are opening their fields and facilities to visitors. Farm tours offer educational, entertaining and enriching experiences that offset the high cost of farming and help stimulate the island's economic recovery.
Having been at InsideHook for the past seven years, I know that you guys are super into Outerknown, the Kelly Slater-founded clothing company that specializes in laid-back basics that are equally at home on a beach or out to dinner. Or just...at home, I guess. So I feel obligated to alert you to the very, very good sale they're currently hosting, on everything from their best-selling Blanket Shirt to their must-have Nomad Shorts, as well as $28 hoodies (?!?!) and a whole lot more.
It came to its conclusion after evaluating all 50 states across three key dimensions: emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community and environment. Those three dimensions were evaluated using 30 metrics, including the physical health of the population, sleep rates, food insecurity, commute times, income growth rate, average leisure time per person, safety, and more. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing maximum happiness. WalletHub then averaged each state's numbers to calculate its overall score.
One last Caleb Holonko edit - black and white, classic BC rain, slow pace, loud feelings. The kind of riding that feels like a memory while you're still watching it happen. This one's a little sentimental. A quiet goodbye to Chonks - not quite a decade with Kona, but somehow more than a lifetime all the same. From the 16-year-old kid who stopped us in our tracks to the grown-up professional super sender... you'll always be the Kona superfan rocking the mullet wig to us.
Maui's dreamy landscape turned into a nightmare on Aug. 8, 2023. What began as a brush fire, fueled by dangerous winds, quickly engulfed the historic town of Lahaina and damaged other parts of the island. The deadliest wildfire in the U.S. in more than a century claimed 102 lives, destroyed more than 2,200 structures, and caused an estimated $5.5 billion in damage.
From the famed Waikiki Beach in Honolulu and surf spots on the North Shore to the lush Manoa Valley, Oahu's beauty is legendary. Given its stunning landscapes, cultural attractions, and outdoor activities, the island draws tourists from all over the world. This also means that, like many other Hawaiian islands, Oahu has experienced an influx of over-tourism. Travelers must be aware of their impact on both the environment and the people who call this exquisite place home.

I always pack at least one animal-printed item in my suitcase, whether it's a zebra handbag or a cheetah flat. I do this because it's stylish, but also because it's an effortless way to spruce up any outfit. Animal prints like leopard, snakeskin, and cow print might look busy on paper, but in practice, they behave like a neutral. These prints go with every color and fabric in my carry-on: black, white, red, denim, linen, you name it.
