The New York Yankees aim to maintain their strong start against the Miami Marlins in their home opener at Yankee Stadium.
Miami only claimed Bido off waivers from the Rays four days ago. They're already the 30-year-old righty's fourth organization of the offseason. Bido spent the 2024-25 seasons with the A's and finished the season on their roster. He's since bounced to the Braves, Rays and Marlins. Today's DFA could mean he lands with a fifth different club in what would be a span of under two months.
The Marlins announced a series of promotions in their baseball operations department today. Most notable among them was assistant general manager Gabe Kapler being promoted to general manager, making him the front office's #2 behind president of baseball operations Peter Bendix. In addition, scouting director Frankie Piliere was promoted to vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives, while Vinesh Kanthan was promoted from director of baseball operations to senior director of baseball operations. More to come.
He stuck around the Padres organization in the lower levels of the minors until he was plucked from San Diego by the Marlins in the minor league phase of the 2021 Rule 5 draft. He made his organizational debut in 2022 and mostly pitched well at the Single-A level before enjoying something of a breakout season in 2023 when he posted a 1.84 ERA in 58 2/3 innings of work between the High-A and Double-A levels.
Despite multiple comeback attempts, Miami dropped the series opener to the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-5, in front of a lively crowd of 16,715 fans. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough praised the atmosphere, stating, 'Our crowd tonight was great, and it was a lively, festive environment that gave us a lot of support.' Miami showed resilience, battling back to tie the game at one point, but ultimately lost after the Brewers regained the lead in the eighth.
