"It's very important to understand that we have confirmed there is one person in the residence. It is certainly possible that there are more. Unlikely at this point, with the information that we have, but we have seen this happen," said Const. Tyler Bell-Morena.
At one point, we were using approximately 15,000 gallons of water a minute on this fire. There is extensive, extensive damage to these buildings, just complete losses. The warehouse at 17 53rd St. was completely destroyed, its roof collapsed, and there was danger that the walls would too.
On arrival, a small fire which had been extinguished, was found in a bedroom. Residents had already evacuated. One casualty was handed over into the care of the National Ambulance Service and the building made safe.
BERKELEY A 74-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon in a fire at her duplex near Strawberry Creek Park. Authorities were trying to confirm her identity and notify relatives before releasing her name. The fire erupted about 3:53 p.m. Wednesday at a single-story duplex in the 1300 block of Poe Street. Officials said the first crew of firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke showing from three sides of the structure. Crews were also alerted there was a possible victim inside the house.
Fire marshals in Queens are investigating what sparked a three-alarm fire in a tire shop that extended to a nearby apartment building early on Saturday morning. Two firefighters wound up being hospitalized after being caught in a burst of smoke and flame during the fire that engulfed 1905 Flushing Ave. in Ridgewood just after 4 a.m. on Jan. 17. The first responding units from FDNY Battalion 28 reported heavy smoke pouring out of the tire shop and apartment building.
The FDNY is battling a smoky four-alarm fire at a Brooklyn waterfront warehouse Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters were called just after 12:30 p.m. to the building on Columbia Street. The building is right near another warehouse in Red Hook that was heavily damaged by a blaze in September. This is also close to an NYPD storage facility that burned down in 2022, destroying years worth of evidence including DNA and items from crime scenes.
The first blaze broke out shortly before 6 p.m. Friday at 301 Pennsylvania Ave. in East New York, where members of the 15th Division arrived to find heavy fire on the first floor and extension to the second. Engine Company 290 and Ladder Company 103 knocked back the flames, and the fire was declared under control at 6:45 p.m.
