Tanking remains a strong incentive for teams, despite league efforts to combat it.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have solidified their position as the clear favorites to win the NBA Finals, with odds hovering around +135 to +140 at most shops. This reflects their dominant regular-season, where they currently hold the best record in the league.
In games this season they were favored by 11.5 points or more, the Celtics have a 6-3 record against the spread. When they have played as at least 11.5-point underdogs this year, the Warriors are 2-2 against the spread.
Scroll through the Los Angeles Lakers feeds on any major platform and one thing becomes obvious fast: they are not "just posting." They are producing. The Lakers treat social media like a 24/7 entertainment channel where basketball is the center, but culture, personality, and community are the engine. That is why they keep attention even when there is no game, no headline, and no viral moment handed to them.
Earvin's involved with all types of things. He owns football teams, baseball teams, soccer teams, insurance companies, a lot of things. The NBA are introducing a new America versus the World format for the 2026 All-Star Game as part of its latest attempt to revive excitement around the traditional weekend of games. The league has repeatedly altered the structure of the All-Star Game in recent years, including captain-led drafts and target-score endings, but have yet to find a solution to retaining a large audience. Officials are hoping that framing the contest around national pride will encourage a more competitive edge and finally solve their issues.
Per the reports, at least a few of the involved teams are considering going their own way - the Braves are set to do so, as the Rangers did previously - but it's possible as many as eight teams' broadcast rights will be joining the six that MLB already controls. The new eight would be the Cardinals, Brewers, Reds, Marlins, Rays, Tigers, Royals, and Angels.
ESPN has had one of its most-viewed starts to the NBA regular season since it started to carry games in 2002. According to the network and Nielsen, ESPN averaged 2.6 million viewers in its first 21 games through Christmas, a 35% increase from last season and the second most-watched in a full season. The numbers for this season only trail 2010-11.
Between now and then, the league needs to hold a two-team expansion draft for the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo, more than 100 unrestricted free agents need to sign contracts, and the 2026 rookies need to be drafted to their teams. Most importantly, the league and players need to agree on a collective bargaining agreement -- a process 15 months in the making.
