The new US News law school rankings have been released and are notably controversial.
The sixth complainant is testifying in the sexual assault trial of Canadian businessmen Frank Stronach at a Toronto courtroom. The judge-alone trial previously heard from five of the seven female complainants, whose allegations span the period between 1977 and 1990. Stronach, 93, faces a total of 12 charges, including sexual assault and forcible confinement.
Provincial decisions affect First Nations' rights, lands and environments, and FOI requests are one of the few mechanisms available to First Nations and the public to understand how those decisions were made. Having access to this information, particularly if it's a decision made by the premier or other cabinet ministers, or just understanding how those decisions came to be, is just part of good governance.
Singh "has been placed in a special handling unit and has had limited access to counsel and the outside world since then," his lawyer Christopher Lutes said at a brief hearing on Wednesday. Singh has been held at the maximum-security Toronto South Detention Centre (TSDC) since he was arrested in October 2024 at his then residence, on the 34th floor of Toronto's former Trump Hotel.
U.S. District Judge William G. Young ruled Thursday that the government must clearly prove any arrest, detention, or change in immigration status is based on a legitimate reason unrelated to retaliation. Young wrote that any attempt to change the immigration status of plaintiffs in the landmark case against the Trump administration will be presumed to be punishment for speaking out - unless the government can show strong evidence that the action was due to a crime, an expired visa, or another valid reason.

Ackerman's idea is laid out in his 1991 book We The People: Foundations, and is discussed in the second of his Oliver Wendell Holmes Lectures of 2006. It's gained prominence since the 2024 election and the wholesale assault on our governmental system by Trump.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with threatening Ontario Premier Doug Ford, provincial police said Thursday. The Ontario Provincial Police, which is tasked with protecting premiers, said the investigation began in mid-February and culminated in the man facing one count of uttering threats to cause harm.

The Supreme Court of Canada will hear an appeal from a coalition challenging the constitutionality of legislation that opens the door to major changes at Ontario Place. The urban park on the Toronto waterfront, opened in 1971, included a theatre that showed movies on a huge screen, children's play areas and several pavilions suspended above the water. The Ontario government plans to redevelop Ontario Place to include an elaborate spa operated by a private company.
