Nisha, who looked to be about 15 years old, drew a parol - a star-shaped lantern displayed during Christmas - and a Bahay kubo - a traditional Filipino-style house - with a small pencil, as she sat at a table of the Bayanihan Community Center in SoMa.
Alessandro Aureli, a patron at the cafe, said it was painful to watch Italy lose the game. 'I wish I never woke up this morning. It was such a disappointment,' he said. 'I was so excited thinking about watching Italy playing here in Canada, and seeing it all disappearing in front of my eyes like that ... I'm going to go home and cry for the rest of the day.'
The Bloor-Yorkville corridor gets a lot of attention for its shopping, but for families, it's the Royal Ontario Museum around the corner, smooth subway access, leafy streets for stroller walks, and density of good cafés that make it the neighborhood worth settling into.
This is a proactive move to prevent any further damage if protestors do break the law and apply any graffiti to anything on the grounds. All eight statues on the legislature grounds will be wrapped by staff in the coming days. The protection will be in place ahead of the start of the legislative session next week.
The architectural proposal organizes new construction and heritage structures into a cohesive campus, establishing visual and physical connections between the city and Lake Ontario. By consolidating the five existing Pods, the Cinesphere, and the new building into a unified spatial framework, the design reinforces the waterfront's civic identity while reinterpreting Ontario Place's original ambition as a landscape for public learning, innovation, and recreation.
This part of London sits just outside the historic City walls, so it attracted traders who wanted to avoid the strict rules binding City merchants. The land was later acquired by Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Cleveland, who developed it, hence the main road being named Wentworth Street. If you're wondering about Ann's Place, that was probably after his wife, Anne Hopton.
Brick Lane is one of London's most beloved, and buzzing, areas. Home to the largest Bangladeshi community outside of Bangladesh, nowadays the cobbled street in the East End is known just as much for its curry houses and vintage shops as its ubiquity of fashionable young shoppers, TikTokkers and trendy coffee shops. At the centre of Brick Lane is the great Truman Brewery. Currently, the building that was once London's largest brewery is home to food and vintage markets, record stores, music venues and more.
There have been some iconic (depending on who you're asking) looks in the last fifty seasons, and the Blue Jays are ready to honor those past designs. The first is the infamous black "Angry Bird" Blue Jay that the franchise wore from 2004 to 2011, which will bear Trey Yesavage's name. This polarizing look divided fans on its debut, with some claiming the team steered away from its royal blue roots.
The road between Piccadilly Circus and St James's Park could be transformed into a massive public plaza and vehicles could be banned from Regent Street St James's, Waterloo Place and the south side of Piccadilly Circus. If the proposals are enacted, the pedestrianisation of certain roads would lead to more than 35,000 square metres of new public space, equivalent to more than five football pitches, created in the West End.
Held in late January, Toronto's design week practically dares design-lovers to prove their devotion. At this past edition, they braved not only the below-zero temperatures but also a historic snowstorm; part of the weather pattern that saw the U.S. draped in the white stuff, Toronto was hit with 22 inches of snow. They were rewarded with an inspiring array of furniture, lighting and experimental works both at the Interior Design Show and throughout the city-wide DesignTO festival.
In September Hackney Council gave the green light to the final phases of the Woodberry Down regeneration masterplan. This has been a long time in the making, as the Woodberry Down regeneration officially began 20 years ago. Developers Berkeley Homes have now been given the go-ahead to complete the final stages, officially known as phases 5-8. Berkeley sought permission to build up to a 3,083 new homes in the area across the four phases, of which the developer said 43 percent would be affordable.
Streaming's steamy hit "Heated Rivalry" has maintained a lofty perch atop the HBO Max rankings (where it airs in the U.S.) and seems to be equally dominating social media, morning and late-night TV, and even the social feeds of NHL teams. The Boston Bruins nearly broke the internet last month after using the caption "Heated rivalry" on an X post during a game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Singapore, Michigan, was a thriving lumber town in the late 1800s, until erosion from mass deforestation caused the surrounding sand dunes to shift and swallow it whole. Yet just as quickly as the town disappeared under sand, its namesake in the East emerged from it: Around the world, Singapore is renowned for its use of land reclamation - importing sand to increase landmass and spur urban development.
You'd be excused for not noticing Hue House while walking down a midtown Manhattan street. After all, as ambitious as the idea behind this new four-story cultural club showcasing Asian culture may be, the building itself is fairly nondescript, tucked into 56 East 41st Street near Madison Avenue. Step inside, though, and it becomes immediately clear just how much thought has gone into the project.
There's a three-story turret, a front porch the size of some one-bedrooms, and a private driveway (with a porte cochere, no less). Wave-shaped dormer windows overlook the Spanish-tile roof. Inside, there's parquet for miles, wood paneling, stained glass, beamed ceilings, and a classical frieze of men in togas. Out back, there's a pergola and a small pond. "They don't build them like that anymore," says broker Joe Brikman,
For many of its staff, the job is a "side hustle," its owner says. Staff have polished the footwear of thousands of clients, including prime ministers, former premiers, former mayors, and men and women who work in executive suites of banks and law firms, according to the company's president, CEO and owner, Jenny Young. Young said she loves how "old timey" the business is and she doesn't plan on slowing down any time soon.
Over the past seven years, I've worked for multiple companies shipping blockchain integrations and production-grade financial infrastructure in Lagos, Amsterdam, and now Toronto. I started my career in Nigeria, where I was born and raised, and moved to Amsterdam in May 2023 after a short career break for a job as a senior software engineer. I returned to Nigeria after a year and worked until I received my Canadian work visa through my wife in October 2024.
The plaque from Heritage Toronto will "salute" the community's courage, Mayor Olivia Chow told a news conference at The 519, a city agency located in Toronto's gay village. "The bathhouse raids were a horrid mistake and a serious stain on Toronto's reputation, a scar a community feels to this day, 45 years later," Chow said. "It was wrong. It was shameful. And we remember."
