In perhaps a vain attempt to prove themselves moderate, the Democratic lawmakers helped override Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's vetoes. Voters responded with the kind of ballot-box fury that should serve as a lesson to other incumbents. It wasn't just a case that the incumbents lost. They were buried, with several of them getting trounced by margins of 40 points or more.
The survey of 1,000 registered voters, which had a 3.1% margin of error and was conducted between February 27 and March 3, found that 41% of respondents had a positive and 53% had a negative view of Trump, putting Trump 12 points below water. That was noticeably better than both Harris (34%-51%) and Newsom (27%-45%).
The opinion declared that the emergency powers granted to the president under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act did not include imposing tariffs. Trump, predictably, was furious about the ruling, vociferously bashing the justices even the ones he appointed and insisting he still could impose tariffs without Congress. Friday evening, he did just that, announcing in a Truth Social post that he was imposing a Global 10% Tariff on all Countries, which will be effective almost immediately.
Harvard CAPS/Harris (Jan. 28-29): Mark Penn's polling firm found that 51% of registered voters say Trump is doing a worse job than Biden, compared with 49% who say he's doing better. Rasmussen Reports (Feb. 2-4): The Trump-friendly pollster is fending off MAGA criticism after finding that 48% of likely voters say Biden did a better job as president, compared with 40% who chose Trump. Another 8% said the two presidents have performed "about the same."
