Designers prioritize art when shopping at flea markets for unique and affordable pieces.
A good kitchen rug will follow a particular set of criteria. First and foremost it should be washable, because the kitchen is a dirty place. The second criteria is that it should be interesting, as an interesting texture, pattern, or color scheme can obscure the inevitable accumulation of wear.
The beauty of frills lies in its delicate silhouette that pairs equally well with gingham bedding as it does with florals or simple solid colors. In fact, an all-white ruffled bedding set or a frilly decorative pillow is all you need to lighten the mood in a room. Extra pomp doesn't have to skew antiquated, either, as several modern variations from upscale brands like Sferra and Annie Selke illustrate.
First, you probably have to rewire the lamp. Unless the seller already did it for you, it's best to rewire any vintage finds so you know they've been safely updated. The process isn't that hard, but you will need to buy the supplies and spend the time to do it correctly.

Sentimental Value is very much a film about a house - a Victorian " dragestil," or "dragon style," home in Oslo where generations of the same family have lived for more than a 100 years. Director Joachim Trier, who found the house in Oslo's Frogner neighborhood, called its role in the film "a witness of the unspoken ... a witness of the 20th century."
Also known as boho style, this free-spirited aesthetic is built on an eclectic mix of patterns and organic textures anchored by earthy elements and color palettes. Take a look at Justina Blakeney's Los Angeles home tour to find inspiration-her peacock-hued bedroom is a lesson in texture. The beauty of this style is that you can express yourself with bold prints that range from paisley motifs and palm leaves, or tone it down by layering a neutral bedspread and pillow shams with tassels or pom-poms.
Our staff tests a lot of sheets, so we know just what materials to look for, and which retailers are churning out the good stuff. The best striped sheets should be crisp but also comfy, machine washable, durable, and breathable. Below are all the striped bed sheets we can't resist: white stripes, blue stripes, ticking stripes, thick stripes-you get the picture. And if you've found your sheets and are in the market for a duvet cover, we have a guide on that too.
Despite their slender profiles, the best runner rugs can still transform a space from confused to curated. While they don't have quite the anchoring effect of an area rug, they can still breathe life into the spaces that need it most (see: entryways, hallways, all-white kitchens in need of resuscitation). Beyond creating impact in your entryway or hallway, runners serve an entirely practical purpose: catching and/or disguising debris in your high-traffic areas.
Ferm Living's Bridge system is one part coat rack, one part display piece for your most-worn pieces. Built for versatility, the slim oak beams provide two tiers of storage space, whether you need room for hangers or just a place to hang your hat at the end of the day. It's nearly five feet high, meaning none of your beloved coats will sweep the floor. Its vertical branches would also make sense as a place to display fabrics or hang towels to dry.
When clutter piles up, closets burst at the seams, and cords snake all over your desk, your home can quickly look - and feel - messy. Or maybe it's your tired furniture or flooring that needs some TLC. The good news is that you don't have to spend a ton on a renovation to fix these problem; in fact, sometimes the solution is surprisingly easy and affordable. And that's where this list comes in, with simple upgrades that help you take control of the things that are making your home look cheap.
The age of white-washed, super scant, and industrial spaces are behind us. Designers are craving excitement and color this season, manifesting this shift with maximalist bedding sporting punchy colors, big stripes, and winding patterns. An eye-catching bedding set is as good as a full bedroom makeover. Linens have the ability to fully shift the tone of a room: A set of deep cobalt silks can add mystery and allure, while a gingham duvet can take a space from empty to adorable.
At first glance, the faux fur treasures all look similar, but each has its own distinct perk. For instance, the Lola Blankets pick has a stretchy construction that's perfect for wrapping, while the Cozy Earth bubble blanket is the ultimate reading-in-bed accessory thanks to its heftier weight and tailored look. Since these are quite fluffy, I like to style my faux fur blankets in two ways, depending on my mood. For all-season decor, you can't go wrong draping it against woven upholstery.
Rather than banish all of Brandon's books to the office, the designer took advantage of the long open wall in the living area to create a library wall. "Millwork/cabinetry can be very expensive ... so in came IKEA!" Michelle says. "BILLY bookcases are such a great product - easy to put together and well-priced. We measured how many we could fit together on the wall to create a grand library wall," she adds. It turns out nine was the magic number. Brandon and their friends assembled all of the BILLY bookcases, which fit perfectly into the available wall space. "I'm not a DIY person," Brandon admits. But with a bit of help, the bookcases came together in a snap.
