Bounty explores the dual meanings of beauty and violence through vibrant photographs of Grenada's flora and its colonial history.
The pair moved to the 15.5-acre ranch in 1979 and were married in the home's living room in January 1980. The 1892 Victorian house has antique stained-glass windows, mountain views, and family room and kitchen fireplaces. The ranch includes 3 acres of Syrah vineyards, fruit trees, a 3-acre equestrian facility and a 4,500-square-foot hangar where McQueen kept his car and motorcycle collection.
When Regalia, 52, pushes the Ferrari out of a storage facility into the Monterey sunlight, the metallic paint ignites with a pale opalescent fire, shimmering in shades of honey and oxblood. Imagine a Ferrari-shaped pool filled with ancient brandy. The Lusso, designed by the famed Italian coachworks Pininfarina, is regarded as one of the loveliest of Ferrari's touring cars, but no Lusso ever left the factory with half the hand-rubbed luster this car has.
Forty years ago, when he first moved to Amsterdam, the artist and film director Steve McQueen would look at 17th-century cityscapes by Johannes Vermeer in the Rijksmuseum and wonder what lay behind the "random, mundane" actions depicted in them. Now he has captured the ghosts of a modern city, once occupied by the Nazis, in a 34-hour film being projected onto that same museum.
