Labeling human-made content is essential as AI-generated works proliferate, creating confusion and skepticism among audiences.
"We're constantly striving to strike a balance between work that respects academic rules of composition, established visual codes and good readability, with something more spontaneous, adventurous, playful, even naive."
Clothing that bears the name of a city near or far has become a closet staple for many consumers in recent years, evolving from impulse purchases to mainstream fashion.
In the collision repair industry, your visual portfolio is your entire sales pitch. If a stressed vehicle owner visits the website of a local auto body shop, the very first thing they look for is evidence of past miracles. A compelling before and after photo does the heavy lifting of building trust before they ever pick up the phone to ask for an estimate.
The ridges of eucalyptus bark, the geometries of shell formations, moss-covered trees, Indigenous grasslands and the hidden networks of fungi beneath the soil. These landscapes produce organic yet abstract patterns - natural systems that quietly shape the way we see and design the world around us.
Kaeden Rowland has made shopping at Staples well, cool! A print specialist at one of the store's locations in upstate New York, this 22-year-old regularly posts videos of herself on the job. We watch her make cat mugs and help people strike the best poses for passport photos. She's the opposite of corporate-and that connects.
Carl arrived to find an enormous to-do list and a very busy IT team who were strangely unwelcoming. Not long after starting, Carl was assigned a job in the prison. As it was his first visit, a colleague named "Mike" showed him the ropes. Carl found it disconcerting. "I was introduced to various guards and went through the first security checkpoint," he told On Call. "The heavy iron door slamming behind me was a bit nerve-wracking. The second wasn't so bad."
What if I took my design lens and built out my essentials capsule for the Everlane customer? I felt like that would be a really amazing opportunity for me to introduce myself as a designer to an audience outside of EB Denim.
AT FIRST GLANCE, the phrase "avant-garde advertising" might seem like a contradiction in terms: The avant-garde is assumed to be inherently anti-capitalist and the realm of advertising crassly commercial. But the involvement of avant-garde artists with advertising is in fact rich, complex, and long-standing, encompassing a full century of collaborations, critiques, and reworkings of all sorts. That entanglement-in all its diversity-is the topic
The advertising world is obsessed with boxes. By boxes, I mean predefined formats - like a 30-second TV slot, a radio jingle, a digital banner, or a billboard - created by entertainment platforms for advertisers to place their messages within. While these boxes offer clear advantages - such as consistency, interoperability, and simplicity - their very design reflects a one-way dynamic: the industry pushes adverts to consumers in return for their engagement with content. The intent and direction are entirely industry-led.
The brand decided to divert its spend to other platforms, including Pinterest. Quickly, it found Pinterest drew in shoppers with significantly higher purchase intent than Meta. Even after the store opening, it kept investing, increasing its ad spend on the platform by 77 percent between 2022 and 2025. In that same period, Maguire's sales generated on Pinterest increased by 86 percent. Today, Pinterest is the brand's top-performing paid marketing channel in the US, with a 5.59 percent conversion rate compared to Meta's 1.72 percent.
"I joined brands that proudly call themselves design driven, expecting to lead innovation. Instead, I found myself in meetings where the brief was literally make it look like this western brand, but make it cheaper. That's not design leadership, that's glorified localization. The real question isn't whether Indian brands invest in design. It's whether they invest in their own design vision or just outsource the thinking and ask internal teams to clean up the execution."
As the latest social media IPO, Pinterest is making headlines, and I've long been a fan of the platform for many reasons. For one, Pinterest operates in a unique social space. It's the place I go when I'm looking for inspiration, whether it's designing my apartment, or planning an event. On Pinterest I have a buyer's mindset, and with a captive audience looking to purchase, Pinterest has an opportunity to grow as a social commerce platform.
Even a casual mention of online lottery tucked into lifestyle chatter feels normal because influencers blend interests so effortlessly across posts, creating a steady flow of conversation that pulls you in. Fashion content has a now-or-never feel. Fashion choices are seen as they happen, rather than in a presentation. Fashion influencers are turning mundane environments into instant fashion displays. This authenticity inspires a whole new generation of fashion with a fresh look.
