Teenage romantic breakups are significantly impacted by social media, texting, and AI, leading to new challenges and consequences.
It's also, notably, Lola Tung's first major role since The Summer I Turned Pretty. During a Q&A after the film, she talked about the contrast between the two roles. Dressed in a black lingerie top with a black skirt and a black cape, like she was ready to go into the woods and conduct a sacrifice, she quipped, 'I mean, I don't know, Cousins is pretty dangerous.'
Love Story was based on Elizabeth Beller's book Once Upon a Time, which was helpful, but in a lot of ways Black Rabbit was more 'real' than Love Story because it was entirely fictional. I come from a research background so there's always a lot of research involved, whether it's photographs or books.
I think the way their love story connects because at the beginning Carolyn was playing kind of hard to get. It really intrigued me to get more interested and find more about it. The way their love story connects because at the beginning Carolyn was playing kind of hard to get.
A key difference between the millennial generation and that of gen Z is that millennials did not grow up curating an online image on social media, and therefore had a much lesser terror of being perceived. We'd put up entire albums of terrible, blurry photos from a single night out, write nonstop on LiveJournal, produce appalling juvenilia and then post it on fanfic or art forums.
Each decade of life comes with its share of pluses and minuses, but there's something special about being in your 40s. You're wiser and more mature than you were in your youth, more comfortable in your skin and you know what you like. Sure, you may not have quite as much energy as you once did. But you're still having a whole lot of fun - it's just that your definition of fun has changed over time.
On February 8, 1977, Indianapolis businessman Tony Kiritzis (Bill Skarsgard) kidnapped Richard Hall, a mortgage company president (Stranger Things' Dacre Montgomery), claiming that Hall's company had sabotaged his real estate investment. Kiritzis rigged a 12-gauge shotgun with a hair-trigger "dead man's wire" around Hall's neck, ensuring that Hall would die if police sharpshooters tried to kill him. He held Hall for three days as police, family members, a charismatic local radio DJ (Colman Domingo) and TV reporters were drawn into the standoff.
A good recommendation I recently received: My friend put the 1988 film Crossing Delancey on an end-of-year recommendation list, and it turned out to be the perfect nightcap for a dreary winter's day: a wry romantic comedy of errors that doubles as an ode to Manhattan's Lower East Side. Its love interest is a pickle salesman-utterly charming!
Should I try to seek closure with a person I used to love but drifted apart from, or is it best to leave them be? There's a person I used to be really close to who doesn't talk to me any more. We didn't have a fight. We just drifted, but I still think about them all the time. We were really close from year 7 to year 12. The truth is I had a devastating crush on her. I told her about it one day; she let me down very sweetly and our friendship continued. She was the first (and so far only) person I've ever felt I loved. She's the reason I identify as bi. And I believed for a few years she loved me too, if in a different way to how I hoped.
As technology distracts, polarizes and automates, people are still finding refuge on analog islands in the digital sea. The holdouts span the generation gaps, uniting elderly and middle-aged enclaves born in the pre-internet times with the digital natives raised in the era of online ubiquity. They are setting down their devices to paint, color, knit and play board games. Others carve out time to mail birthday cards and salutations written in their own hand.
The original Star Trek TV series debuted in 1966, so trying to get your head round all the sequels, prequels and timeline-splitting spin-offs can often feel like homework. It was only a matter of time before the venerable sci-fi franchise used a school as a setting. But Starfleet Academy, the latest streaming series, is not some random cosmic polytechnic for aliens to study humanities or vice versa.
It's hard to ignore a film's message when the main character is addressing you directly down the barrel of the camera. Granted, the first time I watched the 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I was the impressionable age of 11 and Look people in the eyes when they're talking to you was on constant rotation in my household. So my green eyes met Ferris's brown ones and I took it all in.
We obviously grew up together and spent a lot of time on camera together, she said. To not have that for 20 years and work with different people and have all these different experiences, and then come back together? Oh my god, I remember how much I know you on camera and you know me on camera.' It's so special, and it was so much fun because we work really well together.
Please don't. Your colleagues have already done so. I have an opinion on the matter, but it's trivial. I'm a filmmaker, not a political scientist. As a citizen, he continues, I'm concerned about the deterioration of our democracies, but I have nothing substantial to add about that individual. I trust that Trump will leave sooner or later and that another president will come along to try to fix what he's broken. That's all I can say, he shrugs. So, let's talk about film instead.
